Transporter, Patient Care Technician

General Summary of Position

The incumbent in this position escorts patients and transports items between patient units and ancillary departments. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

• Obtains supplies, equipment, and medications as needed from appropriate departments and transports them to nursing units.
• Obtains STAT medications from Pharmacy and delivers them to nursing units.
• Assists nursing staff in getting patients into chairs, beds, or stretchers and escorts/transports patients to and from ancillary departments.
• Responds to all Codes as assigned to transport and obtains requests for supplies and medications.
• Transports specimens to appropriate laboratories.
• Utilizes communication devices (e.g., walkie‑talkie) to respond to requests for service and maintains all devices in proper working condition at all times.
• Communicates appropriate information to patients, staff, and visitors.
• Maintains a safe environment for patients during all phases of transportation.
• Exemplifies Guest and Staff Relations standards in all activities.

• Education:
  
  High School Diploma or GED required, or the equivalent.
• Experience:
  
  Previous hospital or patient care experience preferred.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  Good written and verbal communication skills.
