Cardiac Sonographer – Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD 21287. This position performs an extensive range of cardiac ultrasound studies, including transthoracic, exercise, pharmacologic stress echocardiograms and specialty procedures, in clinical and research settings. The Sonographer works closely with Staff Sonographers, Level II and III, Medical Staff, Investigators, and provides clinical instruction to JHH Ultrasound students and Cardiology Fellows.
ShiftCasual, on-call. Day Shift 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. Weekend work required.
EducationGraduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) accredited Diagnostic Ultrasound program. Additional clinical experience or credentials may be considered.
Work ExperienceSuccessful completion of a CAAHEP accredited Diagnostic program required. Experience as a Cardiac Sonographer in a hospital‑based environment or additional experience as a vascular technologist is desirable.
Licensure/CertificationRegistered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by Cardiac Credentialing International (CCI) required. Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) preferred but not required.
Knowledge/SkillsStrong knowledge of cardiac,, and disease, medical terminology, physics of ultrasound, and image acquisition. Advanced sonographic skills to document complete examinations. High level analytical ability for appropriate images and measurements. Interpersonal and communication skills to guide interns, fellows, and physicians. Excellent eye/hand coordination and visual acuity. Must perform transthoracic echocardiograms in a 45‑minute time slot in an outpatient setting.
Flat Rate$49.00 /hour. Compensation will commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
