About The Job

Provides comprehensive Medical Nutrition Therapy to inpatients with a variety of medical conditions. This includes performing malnutrition assessments, nutrition-focused physical exams, diet education, and providing nutrition support recommendations. These functions are performed in accordance with applicable laws and Med Star Georgetown University Hospital’s policies, procedures, and standards while adhering to Med Star’s "Spirit Values."

• Consults with and/or makes recommendations to physicians and other allied health professionals regarding patients' nutritional statuses, nutrient needs, or specific diet plans.
• Formulates nutrition assessment, evaluation, and follow-up plans for patients at nutrition risk as ordered by providers or according to departmental policy; recommends and documents patient's nutrition treatment findings and plan in the medical record.
• Consults in/outpatients for diet rationale and self-management.
• Participates in clinical rounds and appropriate departmental/service meetings; communicates relevant information to administrative personnel. Must be flexible to cross-cover and train in all areas, including the Neonatal ICU and Pediatrics if needed.
• Reviews at least one annual review of literature pertinent to the area(s) of responsibility and presents to peers in Journal Club.
• Presents at least one case study to peers annually regarding Journal Club if possible.
• Attends pertinent meetings to enhance clinical practice, maintains records, and documents in CDR Professional Development Plan.
• Performs at least one annual formal professional presentation in the area of specialty to allied health professionals or the community.
• Develops, implements, or participates in one of the following: new or updated education material, new policy or policy change, QAPI project, or other nutrition-related project directed and approved by the CNM.
• Provides relief and cross-coverage for in/outpatient services when delegated.
• Maintains current CDR credentials, DC Licensure, and completes yearly competencies as outlined by MGUH.
• Holds current membership in a professional organization pertinent to the role.
• Participates in licensing survey as needed.
• Assumes other duties and responsibilities appropriate to the position and area. These responsibilities are a general description of the work assigned to this classification and are not considered all-inclusive.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Food & Nutrition Science from an accredited college or university and completion of an accredited dietetic internship (required).
• Master's degree from an accredited college or university if completed after January 1, 2024 (required).

Experience

• 5–7 years:
  Five years minimum of progressive clinical nutrition experience (required).
• 3–4 years:
  Three years minimum of progressive clinical nutrition experience AND a specialty certification recognized by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and/or Commission on Dietetic Registration (preferred).

Licenses and Certifications

• REG DIET – Dietitian – Registered Commissioner on Dietetic Registration (required upon hire).
• Dietitian DC DOH – DIETDC DC Department of Health – Board of Dietetics and Nutrition (required upon hire).
• CNSC – Certified Nutrition Support Clinician or other specialty certification recognized by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and/or Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (preferred upon hire).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Current knowledge of clinical dietetics.
• Able to navigate Electronic Medical Record efficiently.
• Functional with basic word processing skills.
• Good communicator with peers and members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Able to manage time efficiently and multitask.
• Flexibility in schedule and tasks as needed.
• Comfortable with public speaking.

This position has a hiring range of USD $72,758.00 – USD $ per year.
