Title:
Recovery Support Specialist
Major Duties:
Provides support for individuals with addiction and in recovery from substance use disorders (SUD). Provides education around social skills development and drug free social activities, life skills, relapse prevention, employment preparation, money management, health and wellness and family reunification.
Attends multi-disciplinary team meetings and follows up on service delivery by providers external to the treatment program to ensure communication and coordination of services.
Contact client who has unexcused absences from the program and appointments. Monitors critical off-site services such as appointment to re engage them and promote recovery efforts.
Provides training in the development of life skills necessary to achieve and maintain recovery.
Participates in discharge planning.
Document contact in compliance in the Electronic Health Records system on the clients Plan of Care.
Locate and coordinate services and resources to resolve a client's crisis.
Must understand the DSM-5 and ASAM criteria for the purpose of counseling clients on recovery evidenced based models. Knowledgeable of the Department of Behavioral Health, Chapter 63 and regulation of the District of Columbia, Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) guidance.
Attend on-site and off-site meetings and trainings to improve skills and knowledge of best practices.
Provide minimum of 4.5 billable hours of services daily.
Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesServes as the co-facilitator to the Addiction Counselor. Facilitates group training sessions on the life skills and specialty groups.
Physical RequirementsMust be able to lift 20 lbs. Effective communication skills required. Reasonable accommodations can be made.
Works Closely WithClinical Care Coordinator, Medical Director, Addiction Specialist, Recovery Support Specialist, Nurse Practitioner.
Duty LocationHybrid – Fieldwork, Office and Home.
Minimum QualificationsThe Recovery Support Specialist is an entry level individual who can use their life experiences to help others in treatment and recovery. GED or high school diploma, two (2) years of relevant experience, qualifying full-time equivalent experience in human service delivery who demonstrates skills in developing positive and productive community relationships and the ability to negotiate complex service systems to obtain needed services and resources for the client.
