Radiation Therapist - Float

Med Star Health is looking for a Radiation Therapist - Float to join our team at Med Star Washington Hospital Center.

As a Radiation Therapist, you will administer radiation therapy treatments, perform simulation procedures, and assist in the planning of radiation therapy treatments. You will document all aspects of patient treatment in medical records and support the Chief Therapist and Technical Director in implementing new policies and procedures to achieve departmental and organizational goals.

Primary Duties
  • Record simulation, treatment delivery, and billing. Utilize the QA Checklist function. Run the Contingency Report. Schedule simulation and treatment procedures. Provide patients with initial appointment and treatment calendar. Resolve treatment schedule conflicts and ensure all simulation and treatment schedules are resolved by the end of the day. Evaluate missed appointments and document them in the EMR. Keep treatment/CT simulator rooms and console areas organized and stocked.

    Notify the chief therapist of technical supplies needed. Report all treatment units/simulator malfunctions to the physicist/engineer and document malfunctions/faults in the problem log.
  • Participate in meetings/committees and represent the department/hospital in community outreach efforts. Send evaluations to immediate supervisor. Actively participate in QA procedures by ensuring all aspects of weekly chart review are completed. Perform dose verification according to protocol and document. Verify and record SSDs weekly. Acquire all necessary patient imaging on all patients as prescribed by the physician. Ensure charts are accurate and complete.
  • Operate the CT (Computed Tomography) simulator and necessary equipment. Demonstrate ability to perform morning quality assurance procedures, emergency shutdown procedures, and follow guidelines of the operation manuals for the CT Scanner. Perform HDR and Mold Room duties. Perform urethrograms, oral, and IV Contrast (Auto Injectors). Consistently perform Time Out procedures and educate patients on what to expect during simulation. Fabricate immobilization devices.

    Verify all consent forms are signed, witnessed, and dated prior to any procedure. Complete all appropriate documentation, photographic records, QCL, and appropriate billing.
  • Document symptoms or problems. Promote a patient-friendly environment and demonstrate concern for patient comfort. Treat patients and family members with courtesy and respect. Notify the physician and/or nursing staff whenever the patient cancels a treatment appointment, and document the reason in the EMR. Perform document scanning. Assist in training new therapy staff, including students. Complete all necessary student/visitor forms and forward them to the technical director.

    Complete all student clinical evaluations.
  • Operate the linear accelerator(s). Demonstrate proficiency in setup and administration of radiation therapy. Perform morning quality assurance procedures, emergency shutdown procedures and follow guidelines on the operation manuals. Administer radiation therapy treatments according to safety guidelines. Provide patient education by reinforcing the physician’s advice regarding skin care, diet, treatment side effects, and reactions. Provide patients with education on what to expect during treatment.

    Consistently perform the Time‑Out procedure. Perform hand calculations/advanced dose verifications.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Radiation Therapy Technology.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) Certification.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification with AED.
  • Must maintain Maryland CE Continuing Educational Requirements (24 CE Credits/2 years).

This position has a hiring range: USD $35.68 – USD $64.71 /Hr.
