Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – PT – New Rates

Job Summary

Certified Respiratory Therapist (RRT) needed to provide comprehensive respiratory care in an acute setting, including ventilator management, advanced ventilation modes, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Key Clinical Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and intensive therapy, diagnostic procedures, and patient assessments in accordance with licensure, certification, training, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and stock respiratory equipment; ensure ventilator and life‑support equipment are in proper working condition.
  • Participate in emergency response and emergency department care.
  • Provide bedside PFTs, indirect calorimetry, and inpatient sleep studies as indicated.
  • Contribute to ICU mobilization, tracheostomy management, and speaking valve therapy.
  • Support multidisciplinary teams through clear verbal and written communication.
  • Adapt to changing priorities while maintaining confidentiality and patient safety.
  • Support education for patients, families, and staff; provide annual respiratory education for nursing and physicians.
Therapies Delivered by the Respiratory Care Department
  • Ventilator management (including ARDS protocol and advanced modes such as APRV, ASV, NAVA)
  • Inhaled nitric oxide administration
  • Airway clearance therapies (using airway clearance protocol)
  • Airway management and non‑invasive ventilation
  • Oxygen therapy
  • Emergency response and emergency department care
  • Level I trauma center support
  • Post‑surgical ventilator weaning (open heart surgery, liver transplant)
  • Indirect calorimetry and bedside PFTs
  • Inpatient sleep studies and point‑of‑care testing
  • ICU mobilization and multidisciplinary tracheostomy management
  • Spoken valve therapy
  • Education in respiratory therapy, nursing, and physicians
  • Collaboration with cardiovascular surgical, NICU, medical ICU, trauma, and pulmonary care units
  • Support for Level III NICU, two medical ICUs, and trauma/Neuro ICU
  • General floor respiratory support
Qualifications
  • Graduated from an approved two‑year respiratory therapist program
  • Licensed by the District of Columbia Health Regulation
  • Licensed as RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) and certified by NBRC
  • Or licensed as CRT with intent to become registered within a year
  • BLS Basic Life Support required; ACLS and PALS within six months of hire
  • Excellent critical thinking, communication, problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Minimum of 0–1 year full‑time experience as a Certified Respiratory Therapist in an acute care setting
