Description

The Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking a full-time psychologist in the Youth Pride Clinic. The Psychologist is responsible for the care of patients in the hospital and clinics, as well as and advocacy initiatives as determined by the Division and/or Center leadership.

The Youth Pride Clinic provides primary and specialty care services, including gender-affirming care, to LGBTQ+ adolescents and young adults (~13-21 years old). It falls under the umbrella of Gender Care Services at Children’s National, which is a multidisciplinary group of clinics and providers (e.g., adolescent medicine-trained physicians and nurses, endocrinologists, gynecologists, psychiatrists, neuropsychologists) that offer specialized gender healthcare.

The psychologist position in the Youth Pride Clinic would primarily involve working with gender‑diverse adolescents and young adults and their caregivers. Primary responsibilities include conducting biopsychosocial evaluations, providing short‑ and long‑term individual and family‑focused intervention, and consulting with health teams.

We are seeking individuals who have experience and a strong commitment to working with gender‑diverse youth and their families. Experience collaborating on health teams would be a significant asset.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Education
    :
    Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) PhD in Developmental or Clinical Psychology or PsyD (Required)
  • Minimum Work Experience
    : 0 years Successful completion of postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology. (Required) And 3 years Experience as member of a multidisciplinary team and working with parents across ethnic boundaries. Experience in a pediatric academic setting. Evidence of participation in collaborative research within the realm of early childhood. Interest in teaching/supervision. (Preferred)
  • Required Skills/Knowledge
    :
    Knowledge of current principles, methods and interventions for the delivery of psychological services including diagnosis and treatment in the area of expertise.
  • Required Licenses and Certifications
    :
    Psychologist Licensed in Washington, DC. Fully licensed and credentialed psychologist at Children’s National Medical Center. Upon Hire (Required)
Functional Accountabilities
  • Provide clinical services for patients at Children’s Hospital and other approved sites in an ethical, professional and timely manner.
  • Provide oversight of the medical care team and manage direct patient care for a specified patient population; improve continuity of care, customer service and partnerships with community physicians through timely completion of records and communication.
  • Provide on‑call services as determined by the Division Chief.
  • Actively participate in family‑centered care and communicate in a professional and compassionate manner; refer patients to specialists and to relevant ancillary services as appropriate.
  • Appropriately utilize the defined chain of command and escalation policies.
  • Respond to team members and outside providers in a timely and respectful manner; communicate clearly to trainees expectations regarding patient updates and notifications of significant clinical changes, and encourage questions from trainees.
Commitment to Advocacy
  • Participate in CNMC’s advocacy initiatives.
  • Contribute scholarly effort to the advancement of public policy to promote population‑based pediatric health and well‑being.
  • Teach patients and families about treatment, prevention, and care enhancement techniques.
  • Participate in specific health promotion, education and/or prevention programs.
