Position: Echo Tech / Cardiac Sonographer

Med Star Health is looking for a Cardiac Sonographer to join our team at Med Star Washington Hospital Center!

As a Cardiac Sonographer, you will perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including 2D echo, Doppler, stress, dobutamine, and other echo cardiographic tests. You will prepare preliminary test measurements and facilitate understanding of sonographic examinations.

Primary Duties:
  • Obtain pertinent clinical information from patients, medical charts, and/or physician. Communicate purpose and procedures related to the ultrasound test to the patient and comfort/reassure patient about the examination. Perform 2D echo, Doppler, stress, and other echo cardiographic examinations to provide anatomic and physiologic data for physician's review. Use a portable echocardiograph machine to perform studies, as requested.
  • Notify physician immediately if patient is in distress or severe abnormal reading is obtained. Review studies with the interpreting physician. Aid/training in the Echocardiograph Laboratory to cardiology fellows as relates to ultrasound examinations. Maintain appropriate training documentation/material.
  • Inspect/maintain equipment and supplies used for cleanliness, proper functioning, and par levels, notifying appropriate personnel regarding problems or malfunctions. Assist in scheduling patients for examination(s) to be performed, set‑up of special procedure rooms, i.e., transesophageal echocardiograph (TEE) examination.
  • Perform various related functions, such as logging and filing of echo studies, tabulating statistics, paging staff, and assisting physician with obtaining patients' reports, etc. Participate in the development of effective Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) activities to improve quality of care. Attend echo conferences, continuing education courses, and/or in‑services.

This position has a hiring range of $36,062 - $60,782.
