Education & Experience Required- Requires a Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university.
- Must be credentialed as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and licensed as a Dietitian-Nutritionist in the District of Columbia.
- Requires two or more years’ clinical experience as a Registered Dietitian, including at least one year in a specialty area.
- Work requires knowledge of food science, biochemistry, physiology, management science, behavioral science and social science as applied to human nutrition, and basic knowledge of clinical research tools.
- Work requires completion of additional advancement criteria to attain and maintain the specialist level. The advancement criteria checklist is attached. Criteria is deemed appropriate by the department head.
- Meet standards of care and documentation timing standards. Documents in the medical record using the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ standardized language as part of the Nutrition Care Process. Meets the timing standards for documentation of nutrition assessment and reassessment at least 90% of the time.
- Performs nutrition assessment/ identifies nutrition diagnosis. Evaluates nutritional status of patients based on historical, clinical, nutrition-focused physical examination and laboratory data. Identifies appropriate nutrition diagnosis and malnutrition criteria. Identifies age specific physical, psychosocial and cultural needs when carrying out patient activities.
- Recommends and implements nutrition care plan based on evidence-based practice. Recommends, implements, and monitors interventions to address problem.
- Collaborates in the design of a multi-disciplinary plan of care. Consistently participates in patient rounds, as applicable, and communicates the nutrition plan with the interdisciplinary team. Demonstrate excellence in patient care shown by functioning as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team. Leads clinical staff in building positive relationships both with the clinical teams and the Nutrition Services Department.
- Orients/trains newly hired dietitians, as assigned.
- Conducts formal orientation or in-services for house staff, nurses and other health team members.
- Provides a departmental education session (rendering CE credits) or dietetic intern class.

Minimum 29.93/hour - Maximum 49.36/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
