Med Star Health is looking for a PRN Radiation Therapist to join our team at Med Star Washington Hospital Center. As a Radiation Therapist, you will administer radiation therapy treatments, perform simulation procedures, and assist in the planning of radiation therapy treatments. You will document all aspects of patient treatment in medical records and support the Chief Therapist and Technical Director in implementing new policies and procedures to attain departmental and organizational goals.

Primary Duties
  • Records simulation, treatment delivery, and billing. Utilizes the QA Checklist function, runs the Contingency Report, schedules simulation and treatment procedures, and provides patients with initial appointments and treatment calendars. Resolves treatment schedule conflicts, evaluates missed appointments with patients or family, and documents missed appointments in the EMR. Keeps treatment/CT simulator rooms and console areas organized and stocked, notifies the chief therapist of technical supplies needed, and reports all treatment units/simulator malfunctions to the physicist/engineer, documenting all malfunctions and faults in the problem log.
  • Participates in meetings, committees, and community outreach efforts, sends evaluations to the immediate supervisor, and actively participates in QA procedures by ensuring all aspects of weekly chart review are completed. Performs dose verification according to protocol, verifies and records SSDs weekly, acquires all necessary patient imaging as prescribed by the physician, and ensures charts are accurate and complete.
  • Operates the CT (Computed Tomography) simulator and necessary equipment, demonstrates ability to perform morning quality assurance procedure and emergency shutdown procedure, follows guidelines of the operation manuals for the CT scanner, performs HDR and Mold Room duties, and performs urethrograms, oral, and IV contrast (auto injectors). Consistently performs the Time‑Out procedure and educates patients on what to expect during the simulation procedure.

    Fabricates immobilization devices, verifies all consent forms are signed, witnessed, and dated prior to any procedure, and completes all appropriate documentation, photographs, QCL, and billing.
  • Documents symptoms or problems, promotes a patient‑friendly environment, treats patients and family members with courtesy and respect, notifies the physician and/or nursing staff whenever a patient cancels a treatment appointment, and documents the reason in the EMR. Performs document scanning, assists in training new therapy staff including students, completes all necessary student/visitor forms, forwards them to the technical director, and completes all student clinical evaluations.
  • Operates the linear accelerator(s), demonstrates proficiency in setup and administration of radiation therapy, performs morning quality assurance procedures and emergency shutdown procedures, follows guidelines on the operation manuals, administers radiation therapy treatments according to safety guidelines, provides patient education regarding skin care, diet, treatment side effects, and reactions, consistently performs the Time‑Out procedure, and performs hand calculations/ad‑calc dose verifications.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Radiation Therapy Technology.
  • Maryland Board of Physicians License ‘O’ as a Radiation Therapist, or ASRT – Radiation Therapist ‘M’, Licensed as a Radiation Therapist and Radiographer.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification with AED.
  • Must maintain Maryland CE Continuing Educational Requirements (24 CE Credits/2 years).

This position has a hiring range of
USD $39.25 – USD $64.71 /Hr.
