General Summary of Position
Under the general direction of the Clinical Engineering leadership team the Imaging Specialist II primarily performs installation, testing, maintenance, calibration, and repair of advanced medical equipment and systems. The role involves managing high‑value, highly sophisticated diagnostic imaging technology, ensuring adherence to the medical equipment management plan and all applicable policies, procedures, and manufacturer or alternative equipment maintenance specifications.
Experience in X‑ray imaging and other diagnostic modalities is required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Responds to advanced support requests, diagnosing, resolving, and closing issues with high‑value complex medical equipment in accordance with service level guidelines.
- Provides advanced support for acuity equipment used in direct patient care.
- Ensures preventive maintenance is performed on schedule through daily rounds of hospital and specialized modality areas.
- Orders parts, receives inventories, assembles, inspects, and tests equipment, documenting results and coordinating with supervisors or experienced technicians.
- Inspects and tests electronic, electromechanical, and mechanical medical equipment according to specified procedures, verifying safety and accuracy.
- Documents all work in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), ensuring accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and monthly reporting as needed.
- Provides clear, concise follow‑up with colleagues on work status and offers in‑service or instruction to facility staff as needed.
- Reviews the department/unit operations manual for compliance with Joint Commission standards, federal and state regulations, and Med Star Health policies.
- Maintains orderly and clean work areas and equipment to promote efficiency, safety, and comfort for patients and staff.
- Anticipates departmental needs, suggests improvements, and assists in policy or procedure implementation.
- Associate’s degree in Electronic Technology OR completion of Radiologic Technology Service courses, including an advanced training program in electro‑mechanical/electronic principles.
- 3–4 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of diagnostic imaging technology and systems.
- CBET – Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician upon hire required or actively pursuing CBET and obtaining within 2 years required.
- CRES – Certified Radiology Equipment Specialist upon hire required or actively pursuing CRES and obtaining within 2 years required.
- BIET – Certified Biomedical Imaging Equipment Technician upon hire required or actively pursuing BIET and obtaining within 2 years required.
- Ability to anticipate tasks and prioritize assignments.
- Ability to input data into computer programs and work with all levels of internal and external customers.
- Ability to travel between sites to maintain diagnostic imaging technology.
- Knowledge of basic electricity/electronics principles; hospital and department procedures and operations.
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
- Proficient in the use of basic and specialized hand tools and testing equipment.
- Well‑developed verbal and written communication skills and hospitable customer service.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission and other regulatory agency accreditation requirements.
USD $33.86 – $63.13 per hour.
