Job Summary

Innovation Policy Solutions is seeking a professional to join the firm as a Policy Associate to assist with the government affairs, policy, and advocacy needs of our clients. The Policy Associate s primary responsibilities will be to conduct policy research and scientific literature review to inform government relations strategies; track, summarize, and evaluate congressional, federal agency, and non-governmental stakeholder activities; and assist with preparing for and documenting lobbying activities.

The Policy Associate will have opportunities for assisting with the development of client policy positions, policy, and strategic approaches for accomplishing clients’ goals.

The Policy Associate will be expected to engage in a range of policy issues that impact, but are not limited to, health policy, medical research policy, laboratory testing, personalized medicine, telemedicine, synthetic biology, data sharing and privacy, and more. These topics will evolve and change over time reflecting the current state of the federal government and our clients. The Policy Associate will also be expected to assist with lobbying on behalf of clients and their positions.

Given the nature of the position, very strong interpersonal and written communication skills are required. The position will also require that the Policy Associate quickly develop a deep understanding of the policy making process and efforts of both Congress and the Administration, especially as it relates to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Furthermore, the Policy Associate will be expected to professionally engage Innovation Policy Solutions’ clients during meetings.

This position will allow for professional growth opportunities and in-depth exposure to regulatory and legislative affairs and the community of policymakers and stakeholders that drive medical innovation.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Primary Responsibilities:
  • Research and monitor government activities that could affect Innovation Policy Solutions’ clients.
  • Schedule meetings with policymakers and stakeholders on behalf of the firm and our clients, and develop any necessary preparatory materials.
  • Attend hearings, meetings, briefings, and other federal healthcare policy activities.
  • Draft summaries of meetings, legislation, regulatory policy, and any associated government and stakeholders activities as requested.
  • Draft policy updates as requested by clients.
  • Draft comments and letters in response to policymakers or stakeholder activities.
  • Administrative tasks including scheduling meetings, printing materials, staffing registration tables at clients’ events, etc.
  • Assist the firm’s leadership, as needed, with strategic planning for relationship building and congressional and regulatory activities related to our clients’ interests.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with members of federal government entities and agencies.
  • After a period of time, manage a portfolio of policy issues related to our clients’ needs.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an area of biological sciences, political science, public health, public policy, or a related field is required
  • Either an advanced degree in an area related to the biological sciences, political science, public health, public policy, or a related field, or 3-5 years of relevant working in health care policy, is required.
