Founded in 2019, Innovation Policy Solutions, LLC leverages over 20 years of advocacy and government relations experience to assist organizations in fundamentally changing the way research is done, the way medicine is practiced, and the way health care is delivered. Grounded in both scientific and policy expertise, we work at the intersection of policy making, research, and health care, crafting personalized government relations strategies that best support the specific needs and goals of our clients.

Innovation Policy Solutions prides itself on representing clients that are advocacy champions, thought leaders, and purveyors of new approaches that improve any or all parts of the bench to bedside continuum.

Job Summary:

Innovation Policy Solutions is seeking a team-oriented professional to join the firm as a Principal to manage and support our clients' government affairs, policy, and advocacy needs. At Innovation Policy Solutions, Principals work closely with firm leadership and national thought leaders in diagnostics, neuroscience, biotechnology, and health innovation. Our team culture emphasizes strategic thinking, collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and data-driven, actionable policy solutions.

Principals at Innovation Policy Solutions will be expected to lead accounts and serve as the primary day-to-day client contact. In support of client’s advocacy and policy goals, the position will involve lobbying on behalf of their positions as well as leading/managing assigned projects, which may include: developing and executing comprehensive strategies to accomplish clients’ goals; conducting policy research and assessments; drafting legislation, position statements, background briefing documents, regulatory comments, and other work products to support a client’s advocacy efforts.

A Principal will also be expected to work collaboratively with other members of the Innovation Policy Solutions team to track, summarize, and evaluate congressional, federal agency, and non-governmental stakeholder activities of interest to clients and assist with preparing for and documenting lobbying and advocacy activities. A Principal will be expected to engage in a range of policy issues that impact, but are not limited to, health policy, medical research policy, laboratory testing, personalized medicine, telemedicine, synthetic biology, data sharing and privacy, and more.

These topics will evolve and change over time, reflecting the current priorities of the federal government and our clients. Principals are expected to develop and maintain issue-area expertise relevant to client portfolios. Furthermore, the position will involve detail-oriented work and requires the ability to work independently. As a client or project lead, a Principal is expected to ensure quality control on any client or other external-facing professional materials.

This position will provide professional growth opportunities, including building a portfolio to showcase the Principal’s expertise and unique skills. This position will also require soliciting new clients, contributing to business development, and supporting the firm’s efforts to expand its revenue.

Given the nature of the position, very strong interpersonal and written communication skills are required. It is essential that all employees of Innovation Policy Solutions possess the ability to handle confidential and proprietary information and exercise professional discretion in client interactions. Additionally, the position will require that the Principal has a deep understanding of the policy making process and efforts of both Congress and the Executive Branch, especially as it relates to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

An ideal candidate will offer subject-matter expertise and/or expand the scope of services our firm provides. Candidates should also have some combination of an advanced degree in an area related to the biological sciences, political science, public health, public policy, or a related field, and/or 10 or more years of relevant work experience.
