Overview
All Native Group, a division of Ho-Chunk Incorporated, is seeking a Public Affairs Specialist to support the Department of State Bureau of Medicine as a subject matter expert to support senior Department of State leadership at the Office, Directorate, Deputy Assistant Secretary, and/or Assistant Secretary level.
Responsibilities- Enhance internal and external communications about the Program Office’s priorities
- Conduct research to develop communications materials and respond to inquiries
- Assist with performing a wide variety of complex, responsible, and confidential duties in support of the Program Office
- Develop communication plans, including topics or aspects to emphasize and the most effective media to utilize for target audiences and stakeholders
- Identify, summarize and analyze public comments submitted to the organization
- Draft statements and other content independently for leadership approval to provide timely responses based on the medium used
- Prepare articles for publication and other informational materials and strategies for communicating activities to support organizational efforts
- Develop informational materials and background statements to support ongoing operational requirements
- Advise leadership of potential public and media reactions to organizational actions
- Write well-organized, fully documented, analytical narratives
- Build positive relationships with intra-agency, interagency, and local media
- Write articles and speeches for organizational leadership
- Create content for public channels by researching information, interviewing personnel, and determining the best format and delivery mechanisms for disseminating information to internal and external audiences
- Excellent communication skills, including writing and presentation skills
- Must possess at least 3–5 years’ experience supporting public affairs activities
- Working knowledge of writing principles and operational requirements specific to Military/DoD/Special Operations is preferred
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills;
Intermediate to Advanced skills in MS Office - Demonstrate a willingness to work in a team environment with little direction, and the ability to work independently while prioritizing and supporting multiple tasks

Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
- Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Expresses or exchanges ideas by means of spoken word at a pace appropriate for conveying detailed or important spoken instructions
- Frequently moves standard office equipment up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to work indoor conditions 90% of the time
This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend hours may be required as needed by business demand.
TravelSome travel may be required, less than 25% of the time.
ExperienceMust possess at least 3 years of professional experience with 1–2 years supporting public affairs activities.
EducationBachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or closely related field.
