Duties- Safeguarding the National Park Service icons and symbols of democracy as well as other parks and jurisdictional areas around the Washington Metropolitan Area.
- Prevent, detect, and investigate criminal activity. Pursue and ensure criminal actors are apprehended.
- Cooperate with and assist members of the Force, as well as other law enforcement agencies. United States Park Police officers are expected to regularly work with state, local and federal partners to enhance safety and reduce crime.

- No felony or domestic‑violence convictions; no current or pending criminal charges.
- No multiple misdemeanor convictions unless subject to disqualification.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement – 03/31/2026. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Resumes must clearly indicate duties, responsibilities, dates, and hours worked.
- Experience: At least one year of progressively responsible experience demonstrating knowledge of regulations, procedures, and sound judgment based on direction, regulation, or law.
- Education: 60 credit hours (two years) of higher education, or combine education and experience. Transcripts required.
Volunteer work, including National Service programs such as Peace Corps, Ameri Corps, and community organizations, is eligible for credit.
Physical DemandsMust pass an extensive physical examination, a physical performance test, and meet age requirements under 5 U.S.C. 3307. Must drive vehicles in normal and emergency situations, fire a weapon accurately, maintain agility, endurance, strength, and demonstrate self‑defense skills.
Working ConditionsWork alone in areas where persons may be armed. Situations may involve assault, requiring independent and courageous action. Success relies on physical and mental resilience.
Benefits- Sick Leave – 104 hours per year accrue without limit; 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
- Annual Leave – 13 days for the first three years, then 20 days after three years, and 26 days every year after 15 years; carry over up to 240 hours.
- Overtime – 1.5x pay or compensatory time.
- Premium Pay – Night Differential 10% between 18:00–06:00;
Sunday premium 25%. - Retirement – Federal Law Enforcement Retirement System; 20 years at age 50 or 25 years at any age.
