Overview
Under technical direction, the Payroll Specialist will support payroll operations, payment processing and voucher examination, Intra-Governmental Payment and Collection (IPAC) transactions, and audit management and follow-up activities. Personnel perform moderately complex financial management functions requiring independent judgment, technical proficiency, and adherence to federal laws, regulations, and Agency policies. The role operates in a high-volume, time-sensitive environment and performs non-inherently governmental functions under established procedures.
This is a remote, full-time role.
- Administer federal payroll using automated systems, including time and attendance, leave audits, retirement, allotments, and pay differentials.
- Process complex payroll actions including prior service costing, retirement code changes, and retirement/survivor benefit applications.
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, suspense items, and agency inquiries.
- Respond to payroll inquiries through the Service Now ticketing system.
- Position requires US citizenship and ability to successfully pass a government background investigation.
- Must be able to support/work core hours of Washington DC time regardless of remote location.
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field. - Experience:
5 years of direct experience supporting federal payroll operations at a cabinet-level USG department or agency. - Knowledge of NFC systems and federal payroll systems. Demonstrated familiarity with federal payroll policies and procedures, including NFC management directives, OMB guidance, the Code of Federal Regulations, the CFO Act, and the Debt Collection Improvement Act.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to work effectively in a virtual team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite to include Teams or similar workplace chat and videoconferencing tools.
