Position: Budget Analyst (Seasonal)

Summary

This position is located at a National Park Service unit in the Division of Administration. The incumbent independently performs routine budget analyst duties.

Duties
  • Assists with the development, preparation, and revision of the unit budget, and in the preparation of instructions to managers regarding funding estimates and budget planning for the coming fiscal year.
  • Assists with execution of the current year budget for the unit, including analysis of needs, recommendation for modifications, and making allotments.
  • Checks the accuracy and adequacy of budget justification data submitted in support of budget estimates or requests for allotments by comparison with source documents (e.g., acquisition records, historical financial data, payroll reports, and fixed cost data).
  • Prepares data summaries for inclusion in routine and special reports on budget execution. Tabulates data on individual projects (e.g., construction, research, or maintenance) and applies basic budget analysis (e.g., cost-benefit ratios) to budgetary data to illustrate the effects of changes in levels of funding for current projects.
  • Uses governmental software systems such as AFS and FBMS to perform budgetary functions.

  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education;

    or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
  • You may be required to work overtime.
Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement—01/30/2026—unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE
:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that equips the applicant with the competencies needed to perform the duties of this position. Experience for this position at this level must include at least six (6) of the following activities: (1) Assisting with the preparation and tracking of a budget;

(2) providing required data to staff for program planning summaries; (3) assisting with execution of the current year budget; (4) reviewing budget justification data submitted in support of budget estimates or requests; (5) preparing data summaries for inclusion in routine reports; (6) tabulating cost data on assigned projects; (7) applying basic budget cost analysis to budgetary data; (8) assisting with tracking expenditures by proper accounts and type;

and (9) drafting financial reports consistent with regulations and guidelines.
You must include hours per week worked.
