XM has a Talk channel dedicated to hearing from prominent African American voices in the politics, entertainment, and activism space, called Urban View. You will mainly be working on the Urban View morning show, assisting and supporting the Talent and Producers to bring the shows to air. Must be able to quickly respond to needs within a live studio environment, working closely with the Talent and Producers, running the sound board, screening calls, and handling pre- and post-production duties.
Additional duties include pulling/editing audio clips, posting clips to social media, and helping with pre-recorded interviews. Incumbents of this position may be assigned to more than one program and perform slightly different functions across programs. Must have ability to occasionally work weekends.
- Assist with production of daily live programming on a busy morning talk show, primarily screening calls and running sound board, assisting with pre-production and post-production duties, and pulling sound clips.
- Screen listener calls into daily live talk shows.
- Run sound board and edits audio for on-air use.
- Pull news clips and sound bites to use in daily talk shows.
- Implement daily tasks assigned from the Producer and Talent to meet broadcast deadlines.
- Pull audio clips from interviews and other recorded audio and posts clips to social media as assigned.
- Assist Producer with setting up pre-taped interviews and pre-show editing.
- Work with Producers to create/edit "Best of..." programs from archives of past shows for weekend or special re-broadcasting needs.
- May provide host with news updates and breaking stories, on occasion.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be based in Washington, DC and able to be in the office 5 days a week.
- BS/BA Degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience in politics/news preferred.
- At least one-year experience running an audio board and screening phone calls in a live radio environment (in some cases an internship or college experience may suffice).
- Knowledge of broadcast systems and experience with daily show production.
- Familiarity with politics and strong journalism skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; ability to work under deadline pressure.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to pay attention to details and be organized.
- Ability to project a professional image over the phone and in person.
- Willingness to take initiative and to follow through on projects.
- Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
