Commissioning Engineer

Please Note: This role requires the ability to obtain US Security Clearance.

• Support commissioning of new construction and retrofit projects, including functional testing and deliverable development
• Develop and execute on-site testing plans
• Analyze system performance data to support commissioning activities
• Review drawings and specifications to verify design intent is achieved
• Review equipment submittals to confirm alignment with project specifications
• Troubleshoot HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems performance issues
• Document findings and prepare commissioning reports for clients

• Participate in commissioning coordination meetings with project teams
• Witness system startups and assist with troubleshooting
• Perform field inspections and testing, including rooftop and ladder access as needed
• Work alongside contractors to validate system operation and identify deficiencies
• Document issues and track resolution progress
• Interface with project managers, contractors, design teams, and facility personnel
• Adapt communication style to effectively engage diverse stakeholders
• Provide clear written and verbal reporting to internal teams and external clients

• Develop processes and tools to improve efficiency and consistency
• Work independently while managing priorities across multiple projects
• Contribute to business development efforts, including proposals and presentations
• Pursue ongoing professional development and technical learning

• Follow safety protocols and client-specific site procedures
• Maintain situational awareness when working in occupied facilities
• Interoperate respectfully with occupants, contractors, and facility staff
• Adapt to varying facility conditions and operational environments

• Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree (or equivalent military experience) in engineering, building systems, or related technical field
• 5+ years of experience in commissioning, building automation systems, or related building systems roles
• Experience reviewing construction documents and equipment submittals
• Demonstrated troubleshooting experience with HVAC and building systems
• Experience analyzing trended field data and system performance
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

• ANSI-accredited commissioning certification (ASHRAE, ACG, or BCA), or willingness to obtain
• Experience with Bluebeam, Visio, or similar tools
• Programming or analysis experience (VBA or similar tools)
• Background in building automation, controls, or system integration
• Familiarity with life safety, security, communication, or building envelope systems
