Strategic IntentResponsible for developing and testing solutions to solve technical problems in research and development, manufacturing, sales, construction, inspection, and maintenance. Assists engineers, inspects products, conducts tests, and collects data.
Position SummaryThe Hotel Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical, plumbing, and related electrical systems within a luxury hotel environment. This role ensures all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with local codes, brand standards, and guest-service expectations. The position supports uninterrupted hotel operations while maintaining a high level of professionalism, discretion, and service excellence.
GeneralDuties and Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air handlers, fan coils, and heat exchangers.
- Maintain domestic water systems, hot water loops, circulating pumps, valves, fixtures, and sanitary systems.
- Perform inspections and preventive maintenance in all mechanical rooms.
- Respond to mechanical and plumbing emergencies promptly to minimize guest impact.
- Perform basic to intermediate electrical work related to mechanical equipment (motors, starters, VFDs, control panels).
- Support building automation systems (BAS/BMS), thermostats, sensors, and control wiring.
- Coordinate with vendors for advanced electrical or controls work as required.
- Execute repairs in guest rooms, public spaces, kitchens, spas, pools, and back‑of‑house areas with minimal disruption.
- Maintain hotel appearance standards while working in guest‑facing areas.
- Provide discreet, courteous service when interacting with guests and hotel colleagues.
- Complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks per PM schedule.
- Maintain accurate records in the work‑order system.
- Ensure compliance with fire/life safety, health department, ADA, and local mechanical codes.
- Support inspections and audits by authorities having jurisdiction.
- Work closely with Engineering leadership, housekeeping, F&B, and operations teams.
- Assist with training junior engineers when needed.
- Communicate system issues, risks, and recommendations clearly and professionally.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in hotel engineering, commercial facilities, or luxury hospitality.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, mechanical rooms, and mechanical‑related electrical systems.
- Experience in luxury or upscale hotel environments preferred.
- Ability to read schematics, drawings, and equipment manuals.
- Familiarity with building automation systems a plus.
- EPA Universal Certification preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined mechanical spaces. Availability for shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency response as needed.
