About the Position

We are seeking a highly experienced Air Traffic Control (ATC) Operations Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support our work with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This role requires deep expertise in air traffic operations, ATC systems, FAA rules and regulations, and emerging aviation technologies. The SME will provide operational insights, strategic recommendations, and technical guidance on current and future ATC systems, policies, and the integration of new entrant technologies, including Uncrewed Traffic Management (UTM), Urban Air Mobility (UAM), Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), and High‑Altitude Traffic Management (HATM).

The ideal candidate will serve as a key resource to support the evolution of the NAS and FAA, collaborating with other government agencies, industry stakeholders, and technology developers to modernize air traffic operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance on FAA air traffic control operations, procedures, and regulatory policies.
  • Advise on the integration of new entrant technologies such as UTM, UAM, and AAM into the National Airspace System (NAS).
  • Support FAA initiatives related to Extensible Traffic Management (xTM) and advancements in Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS).
  • Evaluate current ATC systems and recommend improvements or modifications to enhance efficiency and safety.
  • Assist with policy development, operational testing, and implementation strategies for emerging aviation technologies.
  • Collaborate with FAA, industry partners, and research institutions to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Provide input for risk assessments, safety case development, and system performance evaluations.
  • Participate in working groups, industry panels, and FAA‑sponsored initiatives related to ATC modernization.

Required Qualifications
  • Preferred – Bachelor's degree in an aviation‑related field.
  • Equivalent military or FAA ATC training and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 20+ years of experience in Air Traffic Control, FAA Operations, or related disciplines.
  • Prior FAA, military ATC, or industry consulting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in air traffic control operations, air traffic management, or related aviation fields.
  • In‑depth knowledge of FAA regulations, policies, and procedures governing airspace operations.
  • Experience working with FAA ATC systems, including ERAM, STARS, TFMS, and SWIM.
  • Understanding of emerging aviation technologies such as UAM, AAM, UTM, and CNS advancements.
  • Familiarity with FAA rule making processes, safety management systems (SMS), and operational risk assessments.
  • Experience providing technical expertise to government agencies or aviation industry stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams and engage with high‑level FAA officials.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with FAA programs such as Next Gen, UTM Pilot Programs, or AAM initiatives.
  • Knowledge of NAS modernization efforts, automation, and decision‑support tools.
