Overview
This Opportunity WSP seeks a Site Civil Engineer to join our team supporting the electrical utility service areas. Our department specializes in high-performing projects with a focus on the future. Our goal is to deliver excellent projects and a positive experience for our clients and communities. This position will report to the Rocky Mount, Virginia location with the ability to work remotely.
Employees may travel to a WSP office for periodic meetings.
You will be responsible for supporting the design and implementation of grading and drainage systems, including stormwater management, for both new and existing linear electrical utility sites. This includes the design of access roads and structure pads, as well as involvement in permitting processes and construction support activities.
Who You Are- Prepare and review engineering deliverables in support of civil/site engineering projects
- Proficiency with AutoCAD/AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Micro Station
- Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
- Stormwater management calculations, design, and modeling
- Floodplain modeling and analysis
- Site layout, grading, drainage designs and drawings
- Bill of materials
- Construction specifications
- Perform detailed engineering reviews of the work submitted by others
- Provide mentorship and guidance to others
- Coordinate regularly with the Project Engineer/Manager to ensure project scope, budget, and quality expectations are met
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs)
- Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline and prior civil design experience
- Engineer in Training Certification
- Experience in site design for utilities, industrial facilities, municipal infrastructure, storm drainage and stormwater management design, site grading, roadway and utility design, sanitary sewer design and analysis, construction specification development, and development of construction bid packages
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements
- Knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools
- Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., Micro Station, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, Geo Slope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS)
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
- Professional Engineering License, with NCEES Record and state reciprocity
