Sr. Building Automation Specialist – Washington, D.C. – Energy Efficiency & Sustainability About the Opportunity
A respected energy-efficiency and smart-building integration firm is seeking an experienced
Sr. Building Automation Specialist to support a major university in Washington, D.C. In this campus-embedded role, you will connect advanced MEP design with real building operation—developing custom control strategies, improving mechanical system performance, and driving measurable gains in efficiency, comfort, and sustainability.
- Title: Sr. Building Automation Specialist
- Location: Washington, D.C. (on-site at a major university campus)
- Salary: $100,000 – $155,000 (DOE)
- Bonus: Discretionary
- Travel: Minimal; campus-based position
- Leadership: Prior mentoring or PM experience strongly preferred
- Parking: Campus parking included
- Perform detailed BAS and mechanical system evaluations across campus facilities
- Review and enhance sequences of operation to boost energy efficiency and occupant comfort
- Engineer, program, and implement customized BAS control logic (including from‑scratch programming)
- Lead commissioning, re‑commissioning, and performance verification activities
- Coordinate BAS installations and manage contractors, vendors, and internal technical teams
- Support bid development, scope definition, and preparation of estimates/BOQs
- Assist construction management teams in developing technical RFP inputs
- Train facilities personnel on BAS operations, dashboards, and updated control strategies
- Monitor post-project performance to maintain KPIs and long‑term energy savings
- Prepare and maintain complete documentation, including as‑builts, test scripts, and O&M materials
- Senior‑level BAS/controls experience on campus environments, hospitals, or multi‑building portfolios
- Extensive hands‑on work with top BAS platforms (Delta, Distech, Siemens, Honeywell, JCI, etc.)
- Deep understanding of HVAC equipment and central plant optimization (chillers, boilers, AHUs, VAVs)
- Skilled in commissioning, functional testing, and writing or modifying sequences of operation
- Ability to manage field activities, timelines, subcontractors, and multiple stakeholder groups
- Strong communication skills with the ability to guide junior controls personnel
- Knowledge of energy‑efficiency strategies, M&V, and ROI‑focused performance improvements
- Competitive salary range: $100,000 – $155,000 (based on experience)
