Senior Bridge Engineer

• Serve in a lead technical role on bridge design projects
• Perform complex structural planning, analysis, and design for all structural aspects of transportation projects
• Work on bridge, box culvert, and interchange design for highway and railway projects, including steel plate girder, prestressed concrete, segmental and cable options
• Act as a technical specialist or Project Manager on mid‑size projects and supervise junior engineers
• Perform other duties as needed

• Master’s degree in Structural Engineering (preferred)
• 8+ years of experience in design, inspection, and/or load ratings of bridges, tunnels, culverts, and ancillary highway structures
• Working knowledge of bridge and tunnel standards of Maryland (MDOT SHA, MDTA, counties) and Virginia (VDOT) transportation agencies
• Extensive project experience with Maryland and Virginia transportation agencies
• Proficiency with software packages such as Micro Station, LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB‑Multi Pier, LPile, Merlin‑Dash, AASHTOWare BrR, MIDAS Civil, MDX, CSiBridge, LARSA
• Preferred certifications: NHI Safety Inspection of In‑Service Bridges, Bridge Inspection Refresher, FHWA/NHI Tunnel Safety Inspection, OSHA, SPRAT, Underbridge Inspection Vehicle or Aerial lift operator
• Strong communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment
• Preference given to local candidates

• A minimum of 10 years of bridge design experience
• Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered
• Proven hands‑on experience in all aspects of bridge design projects
• Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu, LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB‑Multi Pier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, MIDAS Civil, MDX, SAP
  2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, sp Column, STLBridge
  
  LRFD, or STLBridge
• Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bentley Open Bridge Designer, Open Bridge Modeler, Autodesk Infraworks, and Civil3D
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Micro Station, AutoCAD, MathCAD, LARSA, and prestressed concrete design
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, and cross‑team collaboration skills
• Strong commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture and inclusivity
