Job Description & How to Apply Below

Overview

We’re seeking a Data Analysis & Event Reconstruction Engineer to reconstruct trajectories and key event timelines from diverse data sources collected during lab, range, and field activities. You will fuse and align time-stamped data from sensors, instrumentation, and logs to produce defensible trajectory solutions and event reconstructions that support engineering decisions, test reporting, and operational effectiveness.

This role is a strong fit for an Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineer who enjoys turning disparate, real-world data into clear answers, combining estimation, physics, and MATLAB-based analysis into repeatable workflows.

Pay Range $85,000 - $163,000

The pay range for this position is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, geographic location, and any applicable laws.

Responsibilities
  • Reconstruct trajectories (position/velocity/attitude as applicable) from multiple measurement sources (e.g., GPS/INS, IMU, telemetry, radar, optical/video tracking, range instrumentation, time-tagged logs).
  • Perform time synchronization, data conditioning, and alignment across heterogeneous sources; quantify and correct biases, delays, and dropped samples.
  • Apply estimation techniques (e.g., least squares, Kalman filtering/smoothing, constrained fitting) to generate best-estimate trajectories with uncertainty bounds.
  • Reconstruct event timelines and discrete events (e.g., system state changes, separation events, detonations/impacts, trigger points) by correlating logs, telemetry, and sensor observables.
  • Develop MATLAB tools/scripts to automate reconstruction pipelines, generate plots, and produce repeatable reports and data products.
  • Validate reconstructions via cross-checks, redundancy, and physics-based sanity checks; document assumptions, limitations, and error sources.
  • Present results to engineering and program stakeholders through briefings and well-structured technical reports.
Qualifications
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field (MS a plus).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Strong MATLAB experience for data analysis, visualization, and tool development (scripts/functions; reproducible workflows).
  • Working knowledge of dynamics/kinematics and measurement fundamentals (coordinate frames, error sources, filtering, calibration).
  • Experience working with real-world test data: cleaning, merging, interpreting sensor outputs, and handling imperfect datasets.
  • Ability to clearly document methods and communicate results to technical and non-technical audiences.
Nice to have
  • Experience with state estimation techniques (Kalman filter/extended/unscented, smoothing), system identification, or uncertainty quantification.
  • Experience with flight test/range instrumentation, time distribution/synchronization (GPS time, PTP/IRIG), and metadata management.
  • Experience with common data formats and tool chains (CSV/HDF5/MAT, telemetry frames) and versioned pipelines.
  • Python experience (Num Py/Sci Py/pandas) for complementary analysis or pipeline automation.
  • Experience with geospatial coordinate frames and transforms (ECEF/ENU/NED, WGS-84, map projections) and terrain/altitude references.
  • Experience producing customer-facing test reports.
Security requirements
  • Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required
  • Clearance:
    Active TS/SCI required
