Overview
History Teacher will be committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where students are encouraged to explore and excel in history. This role includes contributing to GGA’s curriculum development and supporting the school’s mission of academic excellence and female empowerment.
Key Expectations- GGA instructors submit lesson plans weekly. Lesson plans are reviewed by the Academic Program Coordinator and feedback is provided.
- Advisory classes are an important part of school culture isory sessions cover college and career readiness, social and emotional learning and academics. Instructors facilitate advisory sessions, grade assignments, maintain communication with caregivers, and support advisees.
- Culture support in the hallways and at lunch is expected. Instructors have arrival and dismissal duties and are scheduled to support hallways each day.
- GGA promotes partnerships with caregivers. Instructors maintain ongoing communication through grading, calling and emailing home, and facilitating twice-annual Student Led Conferences.
- Ensure you have at least 2 grades for every week, 2 summatives for the quarter and end-of-quarter comments.
- Design and deliver rigorous, inquiry-based history lessons that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
- Develop cohesive unit and lesson plans aligned with GGA curriculum standards, emphasizing history literacy and global awareness.
- Use student performance data to differentiate instruction, ensuring all students are appropriately challenged and supported.
- Design and implement formative and summative assessments to measure understanding and mastery of key history concepts.
- Integrate interdisciplinary connections between history and other subjects, linking history principles to real-world issues and local/global contexts.
- Encourage hands-on project-based learning that promotes collaboration, leadership, and confidence among female students in history fields.
- Incorporate culturally responsive teaching practices that affirm diverse perspectives in history learning.
- Plan and teach using inquiry-based approaches.
- Use technologies and strategies to differentiate instruction by readiness, learning differences, and interest.
- Use student data to drive instructional decisions.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary curriculum planning and development.
- Foster positive relationships with students and develop regular communication with parents.
- Deliver guidance and support within advisory groups.
- Engage professionally with new school initiatives and maintain up-to-date records of attendance, curriculum, and assessment.
- Develop and implement assessments aligned to GGA curriculum standards.
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in professional growth.
- Foster positive relationships with students and develop regular communication with parents.
- Deliver guidance and support with advisory groups and engage with school initiatives.
- Participate in weekly and monthly professional development programs.
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) with a concentration in content area.
- Secondary classroom experience in an urban context (three years preferred).
- Solid teaching experience with diverse student academic levels.
- Creative and enthusiastic approach to teaching and learning.
- Ability to write cohesive lesson plans.
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines with a diverse instructional team.
- Ability to work with parents and the community.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, classroom management, and adaptive teaching skills.
- Lead extracurricular activities and be open to feedback from team leaders and peers. Growth mindset is valued.
