Washington, DC FLSA Status: non-exempt WHO WE ARE

DC Prep is a high performing network of public charter schools serving over 2,100 preschool through 8th-grade students across six campuses in Wards 5, 7, and 8. We’re proud to achieve results–our students deserve our best! We recognize that how we support our students to be successful is just as important as the results we achieve, which pushes us to reflect on questions such as:

  • How can we facilitate our students’ academic, social, and emotional development?
  • How can we support our team members’ professional growth and personal ability to do this work long-term?
  • How can we engage our students’ families as our own?

While this work is hard, it’s worth it – we believe in the transformative power of education, the can-do-itness of our students and staff, and the joy that comes from engaging in meaningful work with people we care about and trust!

WHO YOU ARE

You are a relationship-builder who believes deeply in the importance of family engagement and equitable access to high-quality education. You are energized by connecting with families, especially within Spanish-speaking communities, and you bring warmth, professionalism, and persistence to your work. You are comfortable representing DC Prep in the community and understand that trust, consistency, and follow-through are essential to successful student recruitment.

You bring excellent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish and are able to engage families clearly, respectfully, and authentically. You are flexible and able to work on-site across multiple DC locations, particularly in Ward 5, and you approach your work with a personable, customer-service-oriented mindset.

You may also have familiarity with school enrollment or student recruitment processes and feel comfortable using technology to input and manage data in systems such as CRMs, Eventbrite, or spreadsheets. Knowledge of the local DC community—especially the Edgewood area is a plus, as is prior experience in outreach, canvassing, community organizing, or family engagement. Above all, you are motivated by mission-driven work and excited to help families find a school where their children can thrive.

THE ROLE

The Student Recruitment Associate plays a critical role in supporting DC Prep’s enrollment goals by building awareness, interest, and trust among prospective families. This position is highly community-facing and ideal for someone who enjoys relationship-building and representing a mission-driven organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:
  • Support DC Prep’s student enrollment goals by executing high-quality outreach and follow-up with Spanish-speaking prospective families.
  • Attend and represent DC Prep at relevant community-based prospecting events, including events hosted by partner organizations and neighborhood groups.
  • Facilitate Spanish-language campus tours at the Edgewood campus (based on family demand), including timely email and phone follow-up for all attendees and no-shows.
  • Host or support weekly Spanish-language virtual open house, ensuring families receive clear, accurate information about DC Prep schools and the enrollment process.
  • Ensure 100% of interest forms marked “Spanish preferred language” receive personalized 1:1 outreach within one business day, via phone, email, or text.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with community-based organizations to generate completed applications from relevant partner pipelines.
  • Provide individualized outreach to Spanish-preferred language families who receive offers, during lottery, waitlist, and rolling enrollment cycles.
  • Accurately track outreach, event attendance, follow-up, and outcomes using DC Prep’s data systems and tools to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.

This role requires work and participation during evenings and, on occasion, weekends (e.g., evening open houses and/or community events).

This role offers meaningful exposure to student recruitment, family engagement, and community partnership work within a high-performing charter school network.
