Overview
Are you passionate about art and working with children? Capitol Language Services (CLS) is seeking a creative individual to join our team as After-School Art Teacher.
As an After-School Art teacher, you will prepare and deliver art classes in our after school programs to children who are divided by age group. There will be 2 classes back-to-back each work day. The first class will be for students in PreK and K (3:30-4:30 pm) and the second class will be for students in 1st
-5th grade (4:30-5:30 pm).
Responsibilities include planning, preparing and delivering art classes to children of different grades and levels. Lesson planning will be due a week in advance to allow time for preparation and delivery of materials. The instructor will also evaluate students’ performance, take attendance, communicate any behavior issues to the coordinator and program director, and keep track of students’ work. Other duties as required.
IdealCandidate
- At least two years of experience teaching art at the Pre-K-5th Grade Level.
- Availability to work from 3:15-5:30 pm in the following schools:
- Monday at Murch ES - 4810 36th St NW, Washington, DC 20008
- Tuesday at Hearst ES - 3950 37th St NW, Washington, DC 20008
- Wednesday at Lafayette ES - 5701 Broad Branch Rd NW, Washington, DC 20015
- Thursday Brent/Meyer ES - 2501 11th St NW, Washington, DC 20001
- Excellent attendance.
- Ability to prepare appropriate lesson plans and activities a week in advance.
- Reliable transportation.
- Strong foundation in artistic principles such as composition, color theory, and technique.
- Hourly wage: $35/hr doe.

- Must be available to start soon after hired.
- Have prior training in Art or an art background.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Have an associate degree or higher.
- Basic computer knowledge is required.
- Familiar with Excel (to read students’ schedules and daily activities).
- Legal US work authorization.
- Good references from previous employers.
- DCPS clearance preferred, but not necessary at the time of application.
