Job Summary:

Student applicants are encouraged to follow up with the Department Contact listed above regarding the status of their submitted application. Peer Tutors for MATH 120 will work with the teaching faculty and professional tutors as assigned throughout the semester, engaging in student outreach, facilitating regularly scheduled study groups, participating in ongoing tutor training sessions, and department‑wide meetings. The Learning Commons Department is committed to providing a friendly, inspiring, supportive, and helpful work and learning environment through a culture of care.

Peer Tutors must be able to commit to working at least 8 hours per week during the semester. Evenings and weekend assignments may be required.

A Peer Tutor’s primary role in the Learning Commons Department is to provide excellent services to support student success initiatives of the College, which also promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.

Final candidates will be subject to a criminal background check as part of the employment process.

Requirements for LCC Student Employment:

The primary purpose of student employment is to provide current LCC students the opportunity to acquire job skills and experiences during semesters in which they are attending classes as follows:

  • Enrolled and actively attending the following total LCC credit hours by semester:
    • Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 6.0 credits minimum (taken over 16‑week period)
    • Summer Semester = 3.0 credits minimum (taken over 8‑week period)
  • 2.00 GPA minimum (unless it’s student’s first semester of enrollment at LCC and/or granted approval to waive requirement from the Student Employment Coordinator)

Note:

International students (i.e. F‑1 visa holders w/ valid I‑20 issued by LCC) must meet the following minimum enrollment requirements each semester, in order to maintain employment eligibility per United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS):

  • Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 12.0 credits min. (taken over 16‑week period)
  • Summer Semester = 3.0 credits min. (taken over 8‑week period)

Position Requirements :
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 at LCC or from high school
  • Enrolled in MATH
    120, as well as, completed MATH
    109 with a 3.0 or higher, or have a MATH placement Level 6 in the last two years.
  • Two references will be required. One reference must be from a LCC MATH
    120 Instructor. You must provide the name of your LCC MATH
    120 Instructor to the Learning Commons prior to a scheduled interview. The second reference must be from a non-family member (e.g. current or previous employer, teacher, scout leader, etc.), name and contact information to be provided to the Learning Commons at the interview.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office:
    Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3.5 GPA or better at LCC or from high school.
  • Completion of MATH
    120 with a 3.0 or higher.
  • Experience tutoring, mentoring, teaching, and/or coaching (may be volunteer, internship, or professional work experience).
  • Experience in customer service (may be volunteer, internship, or professional work experience).
