Compensation: $22.00 - $25.50/hour

Position Overview:

Washington Yu Ying’s REEF program is seeking open minded, high energy, and fun individuals who desire to make a positive impact on the lives of children.

You will lead a classroom with a maximum of 18 students, helping and educating them on pre-planned subjects. You will write and implement your own lesson plans and collaborate with Team Leaders (Super-teachers) and others to identify and implement effective methods of engaging students in fun and educational activities. Lead teachers work under the direction of the Director of REEF, REEF Operations Manager and/or REEF Team Lead.

You will drive Yu Ying’s mission, vision and team’s success by:

  • Monitoring and assisting in the coordination of before and aftercare (REEF) programs for assigned classrooms.
  • Bringing positive energy, creativity, and imagination to work every day.
  • Creating fun and engaging activities or projects to engage students and keep them looking forward to what’s next.
  • Building intentional relationships with students to learn about their personalities, become a role model, and influence students positively.
  • Developing and maintaining a positive learning environment; cooperating with other teachers, encouraging students, reinforcing positive behaviors, and implementing effective classroom management with high standards for staff and students. Using varied instructional techniques to address individual learning styles and stimulate student interest.
  • Submitting weekly lesson plans for two periods M-Th and four periods on Fridays; covering all themes (Movement, Art, Literacy, STEM) multiple times per week.
  • Recording and distributing snacks while following health regulations and applicable laws.
  • Maintaining a daily schedule, managing a classroom, and keeping equipment and supplies organized; record-keeping.
  • Leading, coaching and mentoring less experienced teachers; modeling behaviors and providing feedback.
  • Ensuring REEF areas are clean and snacks are stored safely daily.
  • Managing day-to-day REEF program administration in collaboration with REEF Coordinator and appropriate staff to ensure age-appropriate activities and alignment with school mission and curriculum.
  • Supervising students’ safety during aftercare activities on campus and on field trips when necessary.
  • Ensuring students are fully engaged in REEF classes each period and supervising transitions between classes and group play.
  • Supervising monthly field trips and ensuring student safety during transportation.
  • Managing student behavior issues; documenting and following up with parents; enforcing the school-wide student discipline policy.
  • Administering snacks and coordinating with business staff to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Assisting with development of REEF programs, materials, and class guidelines; ensuring proper materials are available for daily classes.
  • Collaborating with school administration to develop processes and procedures to maintain quality, security, and safety of REEF programs.
  • Assisting with other REEF operation efforts as needed.
  • Contributing to a variety of projects and tasks associated with the general operation of a public charter school and its extracurricular programs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or a combination of college coursework and experience.
  • Experience and knowledge with before-and-aftercare program administration is strongly preferred.
  • Appreciation, experience, and understanding of Chinese culture; fluency in Mandarin Chinese strongly preferred.
  • Basic technology skills (e.g., Microsoft Office);
    Mac experience preferred.
  • Self-starter with strong time management, ability to work with little supervision, and problem-solving/crisis management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong motivational skills.
