Brief Description of Duties
The School of Business and Public Administration at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Finance or Accounting. The successful candidate will be expected to design, develop, and teach a range of finance/accounting courses in the School of Business and Public Administration (SBPA). We seek a candidate who will possess documented and credible potential capability in teaching excellence, scholarship, and service, and will be expected to foster the growth of first-rate finance/accounting program, including building on existing strengths within the School and through collaboration with SBPA faculty.
The ideal candidate must be a scholar and enthusiastic about working with students for addressing their needs in finance or accounting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- A PhD/DBA or ABD (must complete by Summer 2023) in finance and/or accounting or a related field from an AACSB or EQUIS accredited University.
- Having the qualification to teach in another related field a definite plus.
- Potential for excellence in discipline-related research, resulting in publication in peer reviewed journals. Applicants should have demonstrable ability to publish scholarly research in leading journals and the ability to teach with rigor and effectiveness.
- Must meet the School’s standards to be Scholarly Academic (SA) qualified under AACSB standards and to support the School’s commitment to achieve and to maintain AACSB International accreditation. No candidate will be considered who does not meet the AACSB standards for Scholarly Academics (SA)
- A demonstrated work ethic that promotes teamwork, enhances creativity and motivation, and builds consensus in a high-energy and high task environment.
A candidate for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor shall be required to meet the following qualifications:
- An appropriate terminal degree or agree to complete this degree within a period of time to be specified in the terms of the initial contract; and
- At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience, including two (2) years in an institution of higher education.
Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience is limited or absent.
When formal teaching experience is limited or absent, the candidate shall be required to demonstrate verifiable potential for effective teaching.
A candidate for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor shall be required to meet the following
qualifications:
- An earned doctorate or the highest appropriate credential in the field of specialization, or experience and achievements comparable to the doctorate;
- A record of scholarship and professional growth; and
- At least five (5) years of full-time teaching experience in an institution of higher education, including three (3) years as an Assistant Professor.
Appropriate professional experience and achievements may be substituted when formal teaching experience is limited or absent.
