Brief Description of Duties

The University of the District of Columbia Community College is seeking a dynamic, patron-centered individual with collaboration skills and experiences to serve as the Division Director for Math, Information Technology, and Engineering (MITE). The Division Director for MITE is directly responsible for the administration of programs in an academic division in concert with the faculty and under the supervision of the Dean of the Community College, the Division Director for MITE provides academic leadership for mathematics, and associate degree programs in information technology, architecture, construction management and aviation maintenance, college-wide and externally.

The Division Director is responsible for the vision, development, advancement, and review of programs in MITE and oversees learning and program outcome assessments. Work involves, but is not limited to, working collaboratively with the Office of the Dean, UDC and other administrators to advance the programs and develop innovative, quality academic programs and effective student success initiatives. This individual serves as an integral member of the College’s leadership team.

The successful candidate must be able to apply for the rank at the Associate Professor level. The Division Director for MITE supervises Aviation Maintenance Technology, Mathematics, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Information Technology, and Computer Science Technology. This is a 9-month, tenure- track position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees governance among the various division’s programs by working with faculty to define program goals and objectives within the context of the University’s and College’s strategic student success, recruitment, and retention initiatives
  • Communicates the vision, mission, and perspective of the College to faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders, and the needs and strategic directions of the division to the Chief Academic Officer, the Dean of the College, and other campus constituents
  • Provides overall leadership for developing division plans, new program or course development, divisional operations, curriculum study, planning and improvements assures quality, relevancy, and currency
  • Prepares and administers the Division’s budget according to UDC policies and procedures, approves procurement requests and manages resources
  • Oversees efforts to recruit, select, and orient new faculty, including adjuncts
  • Coordinates faculty workloads, develops course schedules, and assigns instructors and classrooms
  • Evaluates all faculty and staff performance
  • Oversees faculty progress in program and general education assessment of learning activities
  • Leads the Division in the development of the electronic assessment system related to degree program requirements
  • Works with faculty to employ technologies that support teaching and learning
  • Ensures that all faculty use Blackboard to support teaching and learning
  • Assumes a major role in student recruitment and retention
  • Promotes a positive and democratic work environment to include faculty participation in decision making, respect for academic freedom, and positive interpersonal relationships with and between faculty and staff within the Division and the campus community
  • Works with faculty to support activities related to professional development and service
  • Promotes and models transparency of decision making
  • Assists in the resolution of student grievances
  • Promotes and facilitates faculty development within the division
