The Center for Career and Professional Success (CCPS) is a unit within the Office of Undergraduate Studies (OUS). CCPS’ goal is to become a standard-bearer for providing innovative and transformative career development opportunities for students and alumni.

THE OFFICE OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES

The Office of Undergraduate Studies (OUS), an established unit within the Office of the Provost, operates with goals to meet and exceed retention, persistence, graduation, career, and post‑graduate outcomes noted in the strategic plan. OUS comprises three major units:
The Academic Center for Excellence, Center for Career & Professional Success, and the Office of General Education. Collectively, OUS units provide transformative offerings through three major functions: academic excellence support, academic and career exploration, and career development.

Basic Function

Provide career coaching, guide self-discovery through workshops and experiential learning opportunities, and assist students and recent alumni with resume, interview, job/internship search and overall career preparation.

Nature And Scope

Reporting to the Director, Center for Career and Professional Success, the Career Coach serves as a key supporter in the vocational journey of students and recent alumni. Provides advice and coaching as well as facilitating experiential learning opportunities, support job and internship search, and champion overall career development. Must also have effective interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communications, training abilities, and customer service skills and experience.

Principal

Accountabilities
  • Provide individual and group career coaching to undergraduate students and new alumni related to major and career exploration, internship and job search, professional development, graduate school planning, employer and alumni engagement.
  • Conduct resume/cover letter critiques and job‑search strategies and provide guidance regarding application procedures.
  • Coach and advise students on available tools, resources, services, and employment platforms.
  • Create and facilitate engaging and informative workshops, events, and programs.
  • Administer and interpret career assessment instruments (Myers‑Briggs Type Indicator, Strengths, Focus
    2).
  • Provide liaison and consultative services to departments, faculty, staff, specific student populations, and student organizations.
  • Maintain case notes that track client progress, assessment results, and counseling goals.
  • May teach Career Development courses.
  • Engage and maintain relationships with employers to aid in student recruitment and professional development activities.
  • Assist in the management of the VMock platform, including troubleshooting, training staff/students, and tracking data.
  • Assist in updating data for the Handshake platform periodically through the school year.
  • Collaborate with other departments/student services to effectively market internship, full‑time, and experiential learning opportunities through outreach and programming.
