GeneralInformation
Mentors supervise and provide an enriching and educational experience for a cohort of up to 25 high school students. The ideal applicant is energetic and enthusiastic about academic enrichment and the college experience. Successful Mentors take the initiative to solve problems, communicate with clarity and empathy with students and staff, and maintain strong organizational habits to manage daily responsibilities effectively. This academic support role collaborates with other Mentors, the Assistant Academic Director, and the Academic Director to implement the program.
SummerCollege Immersion Program
The Summer College Immersion Program (SCIP) is a scholarship program for high school students from partner schools in the Kipp, Cristo Rey, and Achievement First networks across the country. This 3-week program at Georgetown provides a taste of the college experience with a mix of lectures, sample classes, off-site visits, and team building. In addition, students explore all aspects of the College search and application process.
ResponsibilitiesProgram Development
- Completing online training and in-person training.
- Learning about the program subject(s) to understand course material and better support the student experience.
- Assisting in the final planning stages of the program.
- Planning and preparing for discussions sections and team building.
- Working with other Mentors and the Assistant Academic Director (AAD) to develop group hands-on experiences.
- Attending and engaging in all program activities, including but not limited to lectures, guest speakers, discussions, and off-site visits.
- Maintaining daily and event attendance records.
- Providing daily academic and classroom support, such as: leading check-ins, discussion sections and/or reflections, assisting students with assignments and projects.
- Ensuring students are aware of and engaged in daily activities.
- Answering general inquiries and questions about schedules, policies, and procedures.
- Building community and belonging amongst the students and staff.
- Creating a safe and supportive academic environment for students.
- Working collaboratively with residential staff to create an inclusive and welcoming environment.
- Enforcing University policies, procedures, and regulations for students.
- Establishing appropriate boundaries with students in compliance with the University's Protection of Minors Policy.
- Providing support to students dealing with personal concerns (e.g. stress, homesickness, relationship difficulty) that may detract from their academic experiences.
- Providing support to students facing insecurity, unfamiliarity, and other challenges associated with adjusting to college learning and a diverse university campus.
- Reflecting with students on their learning processes and their academic and professional goals.
- Reporting unsafe, inappropriate, or concerning behavior, student conduct issues, and emergencies to appropriate parties for resolution.
- Connecting students to resources on campus, as appropriate.

- Summer College Immersion Program in Session | July 5 - July 24, 2026
- Approximately 2 - 5 hours per week before the first program launches.
- Approximately 40 - 55 hours per week while the program runs.
- Some evening, weekend, and overtime hours may be required once programs begin (not to exceed 20 overtime hours per week).
