DC Scholars Public Charter School was founded in 2012 and serves approximately 500 students in Preschool - 8th grade. DC Scholars develops lifelong scholars who have the academic knowledge and skills, individual passions, and community-mindedness necessary to succeed in and contribute to an ever-changing world. We have cultivated a mission‑oriented and collaborative team. Our staff is enthusiastic about constantly setting and reaching a high bar for students.
PositionDC Scholars Before/After School Program is looking for part‑time Before Care/After Care Teachers. We seek quality leaders who are dedicated and committed to enriching our youth.
Part‑Time
Hours:
- Monday - Friday 6:15 AM – 8:00 AM
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 3:00 PM – 5:45 PM
- Friday 12:00 PM – 5:45 PM
- Provide mentorship and coaching to scholars in Grade Levels Preschool to 8th grade
- Use developmentally appropriate strategies for behavior management and ensure and maintain a safe environment
- Supervise students in assigned classrooms, hallways, and other common areas to ensure safety, proper conduct, and individual attention
- Attend occasional special events (Joyful Market, Parent Nights, events after school). Additional hours worked will be paid at an hourly rate.
- Act as a positive role model to scholars and fellow team members at DC Scholars Public Charter School
- Maintain open and frequent communication with the scholar’s teacher and parents about the scholar’s academic, behavioral, and socio‑emotional strengths and areas of growth
- Strong organization and ability to meet deadlines consistently
- Convey information effectively using verbal, non‑verbal, and written communication skills. All written materials are accurate, clear, and grammatically correct.
- Work well both independently and in a team
- Reliable and on time for after‑care shifts and meetings
- Adaptable and flexible
- Willingness to work outdoors with youth
- Track student attendance daily
- Complete and submit incident reports as needed
- High School diploma
- 1 year of teaching experience and/or 1 year working in a childcare/school setting
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and get a TB test
- Ability to identify, resolve, and communicate problems and solutions in a timely and respectful manner
- Show objectivity and openness to others’ views; give and welcome feedback
- Follow instructions and respond to supervisor direction and take responsibility for own actions
- Prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and parent information
- Meet challenges and go above and beyond

- Hourly rate: $20.00, determined by new hire’s relevant experience and market demands
