About the Organization

Established in 2013, Ingenuity Prep Public Charter School was founded with the goal of bringing more quality school seats to the Southeast corner of Washington DC. Starting with a PreK and Kindergarten, Ingenuity Prep added a grade each year after its founding, and it now serves just under 800 students in grades PreK-3 through 8th grade.

Serving a student body that is 98% Black and where 74% face significant economic barriers, Ingenuity Prep is committed to creating a place where ALL students can learn, create deep relationships, and become impactful civic leaders. The organization operates on one campus with three (3) academy principals (Early Childhood, Elementary School, and Middle School), approximately 180 staff (86% who identify as BIPOC and 78% as Black), and a leadership team that supports all three (3) academies.

Ingenuity Prep is a supportive school community dedicated to academic rigor and civic leadership, preparing students for the path to the colleges and careers of their choosing. Our innovative instructional model promotes small-group learning, collaborative teaching teams, and robust coaching and professional development for teachers and staff. Ingenuity Prep provides a quality option for families in Southeast DC, and has been recognized for its academic achievement and growth including a Bold Performance Award in 2019 and previously earning Tier 1 status from the DC Public Charter School Board.

• Civic Leadership: We believe that academic excellence – while very important – is not sufficient to prepare students for the demands of 21st century leadership. Building civic leaders is core to our mission. We want to equip students to pursue their passions and be empowered to think, speak, and act positively on behalf of themselves, their community, the country, and the world.
• Enrichment: Enrichment provides opportunities for students to build knowledge in areas of passion, which in turn fuel motivation and foster a growth mindset. We believe strong enrichment supports student growth and motivation across all parts of the school experience so we provide daily opportunities for students to pursue interest areas outside of traditional academics.
