Elementary/Middle School Social Studies/History Teacher
Friendship Public Charter School invites applications for the Elementary/Middle School Social Studies/History Teacher role for the 2026–2027 school year. Our mission is to deliver a world‑class, college‑preparatory education for Washington, DC students.
Formal interview process will begin in January 2026. Internal applicants are considered first. The position is open to those committed to accelerating student achievement, fostering joyful and rigorous learning, and preparing students for post‑secondary futures.
Responsibilities- Create a classroom culture of high achievement and student ownership of learning, fostering intellectual, social and emotional development.
- Provide daily instruction with clear learning outcomes, well‑designed lessons and high‑quality assessments aligned to the district curriculum and standards.
- Incorporate creative, hands‑on learning experiences that broaden student interests, foster ingenuity, and require application of knowledge and skills.
- Maintain a visually appealing, resource‑rich classroom environment that honors student achievement with accurate displays of exemplary work.
- Communicate with students to understand their talents, interests and needs, and to convey learning expectations and progress.
- Communicate regularly with families to update parents on achievements and progress and to discuss student needs.
- Collaborate with school‑based staff and the Friendship network during meetings, analysis sessions, and professional learning to enhance student experience and increase achievement.
- Experience in the role preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. >
- At least one year of teaching experience with demonstrable high student achievement and significant growth.
Successful completion of the Praxis II exam in social studies or history.
- Master’s degree in history or related field.
- Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and/or continuing education.
- At least two years of teaching experience with demonstrable high student achievement and significant growth.
