Overview

3rd & 4th Grade Elementary Humanities Teacher at Center City Public Charter Schools. Grade/s: 3/4. Direct Supervisor:
Campus Principal. This posting is for the  School Year. Center City Public Charter Schools (Center City PCS) empower our students for lifelong success by building strong character, promoting academic excellence, and generating public service throughout Washington, D.C. Center City staff are teachers, mentors, and leaders, and play an essential role in ensuring our students maximize their potential. Our network serves over 1,400 students annually at our six campuses across the District, with a staff of over 250 dedicated individuals.

As an Elementary Humanities Teacher, you will inspire curiosity, foster critical thinking, and help students develop a deep appreciation for literature, history, and other humanities subjects. Through differentiated instruction and a collaborative approach, you ll contribute to building a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver daily effective differentiated instruction
  • Demonstrate knowledge of resources, student needs, curriculum (Wit & Wisdom and Fundations), content, and pedagogy
  • Set clear instructional outcomes and design assessments to track student progress
  • Engage students in learning through creative questioning and quality discussions
  • Set instructional outcomes and communicate directions, expectations, procedures, and content with students
  • Establish a culture of learning by managing procedures and behavior effectively
  • Maintain up-to-date records of student behavior and progress
  • Foster ongoing relationships with families to engage parents and families in their children s academic success
  • Use data to inform and tailor instruction to meet diverse student needs
  • Participate in the Center City PCS learning community via PLCs, campus/district professional development, and weekly campus-based grade-level planning sessions
  • Reflect on instructional practices by incorporating feedback and adjusting teaching strategies accordingly
  • Attend occasional school events outside of regular hours
  • Engage families by building positive relationships to support the student s academic and personal goals
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records
  • Follow school-wide procedures for attire, behavior, and punctuality (teacher hours are 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM)
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable subject area, as appropriate
  • Passing Praxis scores
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience (preferred)
  • Strong ability to use data-driven instruction with demonstrated evidence of student growth
  • Familiarity with Common Core Shifts in ELA and Wit & Wisdom Curriculum (preferred)
  • Demonstrates ability to use data to assess student learning, with evidence of growth
  • References that reflect high standing with a past employer
  • Able to lift up to 10 pounds and able to stand for long hours
