Position: Pediatrician - CNPA Foggy Bottom/Capitol Hill (PRN)

Description

The Pediatrician is responsible for: the comprehensive care of patients in the Children's Pediatrician & Associates practices including appropriateness of documentation and reporting where required, supervision of assigned clinical and non‑clinical staff, and participation in assigned administrative & quality improvement activities and regularly scheduled provider meetings.

This is a PRN position.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
  • Medical Doctor (M.D.) (Required)
  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
  • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in pediatric care.
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.
  • Ability to function independently in evaluating patient problems and developing a plan for patient care.
  • Ability to incorporate ethical concepts into patient care and discuss these with the patient, family, and other members of the health‑care team.
  • Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in the area of expertise.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection‑control standards.
  • Demonstration of a personal commitment to continuing professional development and the ability to remain current on developments and progress in primary‑care pediatrics.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.
Required Licenses and Certifications
  • Fully licensed and credentialed attending‑staff physician on the medical staff of Children’s National Medical Center.
  • Completion of residency in pediatrics. Board‑eligible or board‑certified in general pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics or the American Osteopathic Association.
Functional Accountabilities Commitment to World Class Care
  • Perform patient care, including examinations, tests, reports, procedures and other functions accepted as part of the practice of medicine consistent with normally accepted standards of care.
  • Perform complete physical examinations of each patient consistent with the standard of care in the community, including examinations of the head, eyes, ears, nose, throat, abdomen, liver, and spleen, and all body systems (circulatory, reproductive, nervous).
  • Analyze reports and/or findings of tests and personal examinations to assess the medical condition, diagnose injury or illness, and formulate a prognosis.
  • Perform or supervise invasive medical procedures, including injections, inoculations, and vaccinations.
  • Prescribe medication and treatment, recommend appropriate physical and dietary routines, and methods for the prevention of disease and personal hygiene.
  • Provide 24/7 coverage for patient care needs at the location(s) where clinical services are performed.
  • Actively participate in family‑centered care, communicate professionally and compassionately, and refer patients to specialists and ancillary services as appropriate.
  • Coordinate patient care with consultants and ancillary services.
  • Document findings, procedures, and other information in the designated electronic medical record.
  • Obtain and record detailed medical histories, including chief complaint, present condition, personal history, and family history.
  • Maintain appropriate records of all professional services rendered and prepare reports, claims, and correspondence as required.
  • Provide timely reports of births, deaths, outbreaks of contagious diseases, and other information required for government authorities and company reporting.
  • Supervise nurses and other personnel, interview, hire, train, assign work, appraise performance, reward or discipline employees, and resolve complaints.
  • Participate in governance, management, credentialing and peer review activities; attend at least 50% of relevant meetings if a member of such entities.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including those of managed‑care organizations.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the company that are commensurate with professional services normally performed by a physician.
