Job Description

Children’s Choice Pediatric Dentistry is a full-service pediatric dental center in the New Carrollton, MD and NE DC, providing specialized dental care to children aged 0–16 and children with special challenges. In addition, we have a new interdisciplinary care center called Thrive House, which houses therapists in Speech, OT, Feeding, OMT, Lactation, Airway/Sleep, and Oral Restrictions. The practice focuses on preventive care education and creating a dynamic dental home for patients.

Children's Choice Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics is excited to announce a full-time opportunity for a dedicated Pediatric Dental Assistant to join our dynamic team. This role is integral to our mission of delivering standout dental care that ensures patient satisfaction and health. Located in our state-of-the‑art facility, this is not a remote job and calls for a hands‑on, passionate professional ready to contribute to our community's dental health.

As a Pediatric Dental Assistant, you will work under the direct supervision of our experienced dentists and play a crucial role in the smooth functioning of our dental procedures. Your daily tasks will include preparing for and assisting with dental operations, interacting with patients, and managing dental records and equipment. Your contributions will help our patients achieve optimal oral health and the radiant smiles they deserve.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Turn on all units, wall switches, etc.
  • Check sterilization area and prepare instruments and tray setup for the day.
  • Ensure all treatment rooms are ready, stocked, and cleaned.
  • Seat patients and review proper set-up procedure before the doctor enters the treatment room.
  • Review schedule to identify outstanding treatment, scheduling issues, and opportunities for same day treatment.
  • Prepare your notes to review and discuss during morning meetings.
  • Assist the doctor for all procedures, anticipating their needs at all times.
  • Take and process photos and x‑rays, take impressions, and make temporary crowns.
  • Assist with administration of nitrous oxide and manage medical or dental emergencies.
  • Chart all patients, record medical and dental histories, and ensure accurate note‑taking.
  • Greet, seat, and dismiss patients, conducting daily chart audits and reviewing medical history.
  • Educate patients on value and importance of proposed treatment plans.
  • Manage sterilization following set guidelines and maintain sterilization area and logs.
  • Maintain all dental equipment, order supplies, and coordinate with service representatives for maintenance.
  • Perform simple laboratory procedures and maintain the lab area.
  • Manage administrative duties at the front desk, including appointment scheduling and patient follow‑up.
  • Participate in practice promotion through meetings and continuing education activities.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of a one‑year Dental Assistant Program from an accredited institution.
  • Valid dental licenses in MD and/or DC.
  • At least two years of job experience as a dental assistant.
  • X‑ray certification is mandatory.
  • Certified in Cardio‑Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite and dental practice software like Dentrix.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and remain flexible with duties.
  • Familiarity with emergency protocols and ability to perform effectively in emergency situations.
  • Exposure to conditions typical of a dental clinic environment, including exposure to infectious waste.
  • Ability to lift or move items up to 30lbs as required for the role.
