Job Title: Director of Video & Streaming Strategy

Job Summary:
The Washington Examiner is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking Director of Video & Streaming Strategy to lead the next phase of our video growth. This position will oversee a team of video producers and editors, guide election-year coverage strategy, and ensure our political journalism translates into compelling, high-impact visual storytelling that drives audience growth and brand influence.
Role Overview
The Director of Video will combine editorial judgment, operational leadership, and distribution strategy to build a scalable video ecosystem that serves both daily news coverage and long-form programming. This leader will work closely with editorial and social teams to expand the Washington Examiner’s presence while strengthening performance on You Tube and emerging video channels.
ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership
- Lead the execution of the Washington Examiner’s video and streaming strategy.
- Develop scalable workflows that support both rapid news clips and premium long-form programming.
- Work cross-functionally with editorial, social, and marketing to expand audience reach and sponsorship opportunities.
Editorial Direction & Newsroom Integration
- Attend daily editorial and political news meetings to identify high-impact video opportunities.
- Maintain real-time awareness of breaking news, campaigns, policy debates, and major political developments.
- Guide video coverage during major news events, ensuring speed, accuracy, and strong editorial framing.
- Help translate written journalism into engaging video formats that reflect the Washington Examiner’s voice.
Team Leadership & Operations
- Oversee and mentor a team of video producers, editors, and on-camera contributors.
- Establish clear production standards, workflows, and performance expectations.
- Manage production calendars, staffing priorities, and major event coverage plans.
- Drive growth across You Tube, social video, and streaming platforms with a platform-native approach.
- Optimize packaging, thumbnails, titles, and programming formats to maximize discovery and engagement.
- Partner with audience development to leverage analytics and improve performance.
- Develop strategies for live streaming, breaking-news coverage, and election-night programming.
- Build video coverage plans for key campaign moments, debates, legislative battles, and political news cycles.
- Position the Washington Examiner as a destination for analysis, explainers, and political coverage.
- Collaborate with reporters, editors, and columnists to expand on-camera presence and thought-leadership programming.
- 5+ years of experience leading video teams in a news, political, or digital media environment.
- Proven success scaling video brands across You Tube, streaming, or FAST platforms.
- Deep understanding of U.S. politics and the fast-paced news cycle.
- Strong editorial instincts paired with operational leadership skills.
- Experience building workflows for both short-form social video and long-form programming.
- Experience working in political or news media.
- Understanding of analytics tools and audience performance metrics.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines during fast-moving news cycles
