Video Podcast Producer

Washington, DC | $100,000/year | Full-time, In-person

Come work at The Argument
, a bold new media start-up dedicated to defending and advancing liberalism through rigorous, provocative opinion journalism.

Our mission is twofold: argue openly in favor of liberalism grounded in the real debates people are having about immigration, culture, cost-of-living, and gender, and create a home where liberal thinkers speak plainly and persuasively. We champion abundance over scarcity, evidence over orthodoxy, and meaningful engagement across differences.

We focus on the issues that matter most: defending democratic institutions, promoting abundance-based policies, understanding the American voter through rigorous polling analysis, examining technology's impact on society, addressing gender relations and equality, and advancing human progress.

Position Overview

We’re looking for a hands-on Video & Podcast Producer who can turn raw ideas into slick, high-impact shows. You’ll own the full production pipeline (pre-pro → shoot/record → edit/mix → publish) and work directly with the Editor-in-Chief and Social Media Strategist to build our outlet’s audio/video footprint from day one. If you’re excited about producing long form conversation and debate-style video podcasts that go from wonky to cultural week by week, this is the job for you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage video and audio operations for a weekly video podcast
  • Manage our Social Media Strategist on daily social content creation, ensuring consistency and quality across platforms
  • Lead the development and production of additional podcast or video series, including concepting, planning, and execution
  • Assist with booking guests, scheduling, pre-interviewing and pitching potential interviewees
  • Scout/set up locations for remote guests; handle gear logistics; ensure audio and video quality
  • Operate cameras, switchers, mics, and lighting for both in-studio and remote recordings; monitor levels in real time
  • Mix and master both video and audio files
  • Export video and audio in platform-specific formats, guaranteeing they meet all technical specs for podcasts and streaming services
  • Track watch-time, retention curves, and download stats; run thumbnail/hook A/B tests; iterate quickly as needed
  • Manage equipment inventory and basic upkeep; recommend budget-smart gear upgrades as we scale
Qualifications

Required:

  • 2–4 years producing podcasts and/or video for a news, politics, or talk-format brand
  • Demonstrated ability to light, shoot, and record clean audio in less-than-ideal environments
  • Proficiency editing and mixing using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition
  • Comfort directing talent and troubleshooting live/remote tech issues under deadline pressure
  • Excellent at meeting deadlines and working independently

Preferred:

  • Experience managing or mentoring social/digital content creators
  • Experience live-streaming events
  • Motion-graphics chops in After Effects or comparable
  • A personal portfolio of politically engaged or policy-focused audio/video work
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary: $100,000 per year
  • Flexible leave policies with 15 paid days off
  • Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, and 401(k) match)
  • Opportunity to help build a mission-driven media startup from the ground up
  • Direct exposure to senior leadership and editorial decision-making
  • Central location in downtown Washington, DC
