Cockburn Editor

About the Role

Join The Spectator's expanding team as the Cockburn editor and work with the best journalists, authors, critics and cartoonists since 1828. You will help edit The Spectator's DC society and gossip coverage in the United States, reporting on the major political stories of the day. You will work closely with the US editor and deputy US editor to cover the Trump administration, Congress and political events across the country, including gathering exclusive content and breaking stories of your own.

The role is full-time and based in Washington, DC.

• At least two years' experience working at a newspaper, magazine or online media outlet.
• Excellent commissioning and editing skills.
• Experience in promoting articles on social media.
• Willingness to be flexible and responsive to fast-moving events.
• An understanding of The Spectator's brand and style.
• A strong understanding of Washington, DC and its social gatherings.

• Write for and edit Cockburn's gossip entries and stories.
• Write for The Spectator's US print and online editions.
• Cover breaking news stories.
• Write and contribute to Spectator newsletters.
• Brainstorm ideas and angles on news stories, and make judgments about what stories to prioritize and cover.
• Work flexibly and out of hours.

Salary dependent on experience.
