The purpose of this position is to produce an on-air radio show as well as provide programming and audio console support to On-Air Talent.
Supervisory AccountabilityThe Board Operator/Producer reports directly to the Program Director.
Nature and ScopeInternal contacts include WHUR management, On-Air Talent, faculty and staff of the department, school, hospital and University. External contacts include consultants, federal and local government officials, representatives from other colleges and universities, alumni, visitors and the general public.
Principal Accountabilities- Operates audio console for studios and remote programming.
- Plays music as specified by the Program Director and music log.
- Regulates program timing, operates syndicated programming, and plays commercials.
- Records and edits on-air and online guest interviews.
- Monitors the technical quality and accuracy of incoming and outgoing on-air programming from master control room.
- Answers phone lines and interviews members of listening audience who telephone musical requests. Airs contests according to the specifications of the Program Director.
- Assists with adjusting signal and programming content to ensure transmission meets FCC mandated broadcast standards.
- Sets up equipment for broadcasts and promotions at station remotes.
- Ensures logged commercials, promotions, sweepers and any other programming elements essential to the station's operations are aired.
- Checks studio equipment for proper functioning and notifies Engineering of technical malfunctions affecting quality of the broadcast.
- Handles emergency inserts (e.g. news updates, breaking stories, alert system tests, etc.).
- Time management and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Windows, Vox Pro or similar audio editing software, Promo Suite, Wide Orbit or similar automation system.
- Demonstrated experience with audio editing software, including Adobe Audition.
