PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: $112,500 - $131,250 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
This is a local hire position and eligible candidates must be able to live and work in the US (US citizenship, Green Card or work authorisation).

We’re looking for a multiskilled correspondent/producer, to provide informed coverage and analysis of news topics and events by gathering, reporting, presenting and producing the news accurately and impartially across all BBC News output.

Based in Washington DC, you will spend a proportion of your time presenting live news programmes on the BBC News channel, reacting on air to breaking stories, introducing live events and prepared material and carrying out live interviews. You’ll analyse key developments on both US and global stories, often at short notice, live on air.

When not presenting and reporting, responsibilities will include a high level of production for channel news programmes. Producing represents a high percentage of the shifts. As well as serving the television news channel, you’ll work flexibly across a range of other outlets, including digital platforms and radio programming. This job involves mainly evening and weekend work.

• To produce, report, or present live and pre‑recorded news programmes providing high quality, responsive coverage and analysis of news topics and events, drawing on specific areas of knowledge or the ability to adapt to a range of subject areas, across all BBC outlets
• Meet high journalistic standards and fully observe BBC Editorial Guidelines, seeking advice from Editorial Policy when appropriate.
• Adapt to developing stories live on air both on location and in the studio.
• Produce high quality television news segments including writing, guest booking and creating graphics.
• Plan and deliver stories that broaden our agenda, including for new audiences across our services.
• Present weekend news programmes on rotation.

• Ensure that the BBC’s output reflects the audiences we serve, with particular attention to diversity.
• Tell stories in the most appropriate way to deliver our journalism to a variety of audiences in the UK, the US and around the world.
• At all times carry out duties in accordance with BBC Health and Safety policy, completing risk assessments.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• A high level of editorial awareness and judgment demonstrated by a strong journalistic record.
• Able to create multi‑platform content. Uses knowledge of trends in digital output and social listening to develop story ideas.
• Demonstrates a commitment to improving the diversity of the BBC’s coverage, representing all audiences and all points of view.
• The ability to generate and produce creative and original ideas from concept to broadcast or publication.
• Proven broadcast and written skills with the ability to deliver reports with assurance from location or the newsroom/studio, for all platforms.
• Able to present and explain complex information and ideas in an accessible manner, adopting a range of styles, tools and techniques appropriate to the audience and the nature of the information.
• An excellent understanding of different programmes and services and their audiences.

• An experienced on air journalist who is able to build a relationship with the audience and willing to learn and grow their presenting skills.
• The flexibility and adaptability to provide high quality journalism, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.
• Able to build and maintain effective working relationships and quickly establish networks with a range of people both inside and outside of the BBC.
• Able to prioritise and plan activities taking into account all relevant factors such as deadlines and resource requirements.
