Position: MEP Construction Estimator - Federal Sector

Procon Consulting is seeking a highly skilled MEP Construction Estimator focused on the Federal Sector to join our dynamic team. With over 25 years of industry experience, Procon is a leading construction management and technology consulting firm, enhancing project development across the U.S. and globally. This role is essential in delivering accurate and detailed cost estimates for various federal projects, including offices, laboratories, and mixed-use facilities.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in MEP systems and a deep understanding of federal project requirements. You will play a critical role in ensuring project success through precise estimating, in collaboration with our project management teams.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in construction estimating, specifically comprehensive MEP estimating expertise across Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection disciplines.
  • Consulting or owner’s-representative background required (cost advisory, program/construction management, or related consulting services).
  • Strong understanding of UNIFORMAT classifications and federal/public-sector estimating standards.
  • Familiarity with federal project scopes and specifications.
  • Experience with cost databases like RS Means is a plus.
  • ASPE or AACEI Certification is preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a HSPD-12 background check.
  • Proficient in On-Screen Takeoff (OST) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Experience with MII (MCACES) and/or SUCCESS Estimator is a preferred advantage.
  • Knowledge of the GSA Cost Estimating Workbook is beneficial.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Conduct detailed change order estimates for ongoing federal projects.
  • Perform market research studies to inform cost estimating processes.
  • Develop comprehensive scopes of work for bidding and estimating functions.
  • Prepare various levels of estimates, including conceptual and construction-level estimates.
  • Generate Rough Order of Magnitudes (ROMs) for potential projects.
  • Monitor and compare planned vs. actual project costs and timelines, providing corrective recommendations as needed.
  • Execute accurate quantity takeoffs and ensure proper materials pricing.
  • Develop Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify project requirements and ensure competitive subcontractor engagement.
