This Director of Operations role is the perfect position for a director who thrives on being a "player-coach," offering the autonomy to implement lean processes that directly drive revenue while operating at the cutting edge of thermal insulation technology.
Job Description:The Director of Operations is a high-impact, "player-coach" leader tasked with professionalizing a 40-person team through process improvement and mentorship to scale revenue and margins within the spacecraft thermal insulation market.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:- Workflow Optimization
:
Evaluate and refine daily production schedules and design-to-manufacturing handoffs to eliminate bottlenecks, directly improving project margins and company revenue. - Active Mentorship: Conduct daily touchpoints and coaching sessions with department managers to build their leadership capacity, moving them toward independent management of their respective teams.
- High-Stakes Liaison
:
Serve as the senior point of contact for customer engineering and procurement teams, translating complex technical specifications into accurate proposals and resolving any escalated supply chain or production issues.
- 10+ years of Operations Experience with in the Aerospace or high-precision manufacturing space
- Demonstrated track record of coaching and professionalizing managers with limited experience, moving a team from founder-led oversight to independent operational excellence.
- Ideal candidates will have previous knowledge of the government contracting and engineering specifications.
Location
:
This role is based in the Greater Washington, DC area and is a hybrid work environment. The Director is expected to be primarily on-site to provide the face-to-face coaching and oversight necessary for a growing production team. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.
