Position: Regulatory/Technical Writer - Food Packaging, Food, Chemicals, and Sustainability (Hybrid)

Keller and Heckman LLP is an internationally recognized law firm headquartered in Washington, D.C. The firm is seeking an experienced Technical Writer
, preferably with a background in food packaging, food science, regulatory science, and/or chemistry to support the Firm’s marketing and business development efforts. This role will focus on developing high-quality content on the Firm’s branded ® website and other client- and public-facing communications, which showcase the Firm’s thought leadership and legal expertise in the global regulatory landscape for the food packaging, food, and related industries.

This position affords schedule flexibility and is an ideal opportunity for a technically skilled writer who can translate complex scientific and regulatory issues into clear, compelling content for clients, prospects, and industry audiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, edit, and refine news articles, blog posts, client alerts, website content, and other marketing pieces related to food packaging, chemicals, food, and other related regulatory matters.
  • Translate complex scientific and regulatory concepts into accessible, engaging content for non-technical and legal/executive audiences.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and subject matter experts to develop content to promote the Firm’s food packaging and food practice groups.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend relevant industry publications, journals, and other outlets to highlight attorney expertise, and assist attorneys in developing bylined articles as content for those periodicals.
  • Ensure all content is accurate, compliant, and aligned with the Firm’s voice, brand standards, and marketing strategy.
  • Support development of presentations, webinar materials, and client communications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience (demonstrated journalism or editorial experience in a newsroom, or for a magazine, trade publication, or similar).
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with an established ability to quickly distill complex legal, scientific, and/or regulatory information into clear and concise narratives and client-facing content.
  • Educational and/or professional background in packaging, chemicals, or regulatory affairs sectors a plus.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with the ability to manage multiple assignments while maintaining attention to detail.
Hybrid Work Arrangement

This role follows a hybrid work model. Hybrid schedules are determined based on role requirements and business needs. Must be local to Washington, D.C. area.

Compensation and Schedule

This is an hourly position with compensation commensurate with experience. The schedule is flexible with project-based deadlines, with the expected hours per week ranging from 12-20 depending on Firm needs. The anticipated hourly rate for this position is: $50.00 - $75.00 per hour, representing the low and high end of the hourly rate. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, job-related experience, qualifications, and internal alignment.
