Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director of Board of Visitors Operations and to the Associate Secretary of the Board, the Board Program Coordinator will provide assistance and coordination of three Board stakeholder initiatives: the Board of Visitors Program; the Alumni Leadership Academy; and TCIAC, an advisory group that supports the identification of candidates for volunteer opportunities across the University. The Coordinator will also serve as a member of the team of the Office of the Secretary and will be expected to assist as necessary at all in person and virtual Board of Trustees meetings and events.

Provide support for the Board of Visitors (BOV) Program, which consists of 14 Boards of Visitors, one for each of Howard University’s Schools and Colleges. Under the direction of the Director of BOV Operations, the Coordinator will support and manage assigned administrative and operational activities related to the oversight of the Board of Visitors Program.

Principal Accountabilities Board of Visions Program

This includes tracking and monitoring candidates and members through the membership cycle. The Coordinator will support the maintenance and ongoing updates of BOV operational documents, templates, trackers, and reporting tools. The Coordinator will support the Director on BOV meetings and assist in planning the Biennial Congress of the Board of Visitors Program. As relates to the BOV Program, the Coordinator will report to and work with the Director of BOV Operations.

Alumni

Leadership Academy (ALA) and TCIAC

The Coordinator provides comprehensive support for the Alumni Leadership Academy (“the Academy”), which is designed to facilitate meaningful engagement between Board of Trustee members and the alumni community. Under the direction of the Associate Secretary, the Coordinator will work with select members of the Governance Committee and colleagues in Development and Alumni Relations (DAR); the Coordinator will schedule, plan, and execute virtual and in‑person Academy sessions and engagement opportunities.

Responsibilities include coordinating logistics; assisting with the identification, scheduling and management of speakers and facilitators; ensuring timely communications; and serving as the principal point of contact for internal and external stakeholders. The Coordinator will attend meetings, as required. The Coordinator will manage and staff the Academy’s annual application and selection cycle, including scheduling selection committee meetings, tracking applicant and cohort data, maintaining program records and keeping Academy communications and website content current.

For the Trustee Candidate Identification Advisory Council (TCIAC), the Coordinator will provide broad support for TCIAC, which acts in an advisory role to the Governance Committee of the Board to assist in broadening the pool of potential candidates considered by the Committee, and engaging the Howard University community in identifying potential candidates for various volunteer roles. Working with select member(s) of the Governance Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Coordinator will attend all meetings of TCIAC, keep records, and track proposed candidates for volunteer roles at the University, including candidates for BOV membership and for trusteeship.
