Overview

Summary: The Office Clerk sorts incoming mail for distribution and dispatches outgoing mail by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs duties of front desk dispatcher on an as needed basis including answering main telephone, logging in and out all outgoing and incoming packages, inputting necessary information in courier company's onsite computer systems, communicating with outside couriers as needed for status information, dispatching work to other clerks, and advising addressees on priority pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Assists in sorting inter-office mail and processing outgoing mail.
  • Distributes and collects departmental mail by floors pushing a 50 pound cart and lifting mail tubs weighing approximately 45 pounds.
  • Wraps, seals, weighs, and posts outgoing mail and operates postal machines (The Paragon) and Federal Express computer (Power Ship).
  • Maintains records on postage, registration of mail, and packages.
  • Delivers mail, packages, and boxes, both inter-office and to outside addresses traveling on foot or public conveyance.
  • Assists with court filings and delivers documents to local courts and obtains receipts for documents filed.
  • Sorts mail according to destination and type such as returned letters, adjustments, bills, orders, and payments.
  • Readdresses undeliverable mail bearing incomplete or incorrect address.
  • Examines outgoing mail for appearance, seals envelopes by hand or machine, and ensures that postage has been affixed properly.
  • Weighs mail to determine that postage is correct.
  • Assists as requested with conference room set-up (i.e., assembly of tables and chairs), furniture moves, local errands, shredding, and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Completes petty cash vouchers for all runs and submits to supervisor for approval for processing in accounting department.
  • Maintains supply room.
  • Works closely as a team with others in the department.
  • Replaces toner in all laser printers.

Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate. If an estimated salary range for this role is available, it will be provided in our Target Salary Range section. Target Salary Range

Range: $49,000 - $66,000 if located in Washington, D.C.

Required

Education and/or

Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One year or more of general office experience.
Preferred
  • Law firm experience.
